Reasonable Doubt (2017)
I Enjoy The Show, BUT...
I've seen prior season episodes here and there but have watched all of the season 3 eps to date. The show's intro leads one to believe there are a ton of wrongfully convicted people behind bars, but in literally EVERY episode of S3 to-date (eps 1 thru 8), Chris and Fatima have sided with the jury. That's not really their fault, though; but, with a show called Reasonable Doubt, shouldn't the producers do a better job at vetting the cases in advance so that the hosts don't have to tell the loved ones of EVERY convict featured that, unfortunately, they can't get behind the reversal of the conviction and release of the inmate because they, too, believe they're guilty? Maybe the last 2 eps of the season will produce different outcomes, but I'm reasonably doubtful.
Inside (2016)
Dumber than a bag of hammers...
First, let me say that I normally love Rachel Nichols, but her character in this film is pathetic and dumb as hell. I'm sad for Rachel for getting roped into such a tragedy. Repeatedly locking herself in an upstairs bathroom with no other possible way out, her fight or flight mechanism remains stuck on light when she actually needs to go crazy on this intruder. She had several opportunities to fully incapacitate or kill the villain but no, she just keeps on waiting for an imaginary army to show up & rescue the damsel in distress. Fight back woman! And good Lord, don't get me started on her actions (inaction) in the last quarter of the film (the police car, villain's dwelling, swimming pool). I kept yelling obscenities at this dumb twit. Oh, and if I were a police officer, I wouldbe highly offended that my career was portrayed in such devastating incompetence. In reality, female cop would've called for backup the minute she entered the house & saw the carnage AND a bleeding pregnant woman! These blatant inaccuracies drove me nuts. NOTHING was believable. Especially that moronic ending when the villain & protagonist (NOT a hero) are drowning in the pool and the villain suddenly has a change of heart, choosing to sacrifice her own life for the pregnant protagonist. Really? We're really supposed to believe this crap? Honestly, until that moment I felt like the villain would've been a much better mother. I mean if I was picking moms, I'd take a little crazy with my mama "fight to the death" bear over a spineless, dim-witted, twit.
Another Life (2019)
Based in logic? No. Entertaining? Yes!
I think too many people are concerned with logic and reason. This series is pure science fiction. Guess what? So are all the Marvel and DC films that get such high critic praise. I'm sure this series didn't have the budget that a blockbuster film has, but it's entertaining. It's a little predictable at times - ok, a lot predictable at times - but it has a diverse, wide-ranging cast that's easy to both love and hate, creating a fun atmosphere. It combines the right amount of suspense, horror, humor, and drama to keep it rolling and to keep it enjoyable. I've tried watching a number of other series, some critically-praised, on Netflix and Hulu and, lately, I can't sit through more than 2 or 3 episodes at a time. I was glued to Another Life, having to force myself away from the TV. Maybe I enjoyed the escape from any ounce of reality. Sometimes, gritty realness is the last thing we want or need. Sometimes we need the ridiculous fantasy and Another Life offers exactly that.
