Celtic Woman (2005)
Irish music at its best!
This delightful concert was filmed in 2004 and was only going to be a one night show. Little did composer David Downes (the brilliant man behind this fantastic group of incredibly talented women) know that it would be an overnight sensation, and that Celtic Woman would be adored all over the world by people of all ages. This performance was a huge hit, and I can definitely see why - five beautiful and super talented women singing traditional songs (like "Danny Boy" and "Siuil A Run"), modern songs (like "May It Be" from The Lord of the Rings), and original songs (like "One World", "Send Me a Song", and "The Soft Goodbye"), as well as phenomenal instrumental songs by the insanely talented fiddler Mairead Nesbitt ("The Butterfly" and "The Ashoken Farewell/The Contradiction").
This is an absolutely stunning performance, and I highly recommend it for people from 3 to 93 who love great music.
Celtic Woman: Believe (2012)
Amazing!
Once again, Celtic Woman blows my mind! This is Celtic Woman's first televised concert featuring Lisa Lambe. Sure, she can't replace Orla Fallon or Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, but she's excellent in her own way - she can sing really well, she's definitely got the looks for Celtic Woman, and she can play the spoons! And as always, Lisa Kelly, Chloe Agnew, and Mairead Nesbitt totally are completely incredible and beautiful as well.
This performance begins with the epic song "Awakening" and ends with a very powerful performance of the classic Irish song "The Parting Glass". It also features excellent covers of songs well-known all over the world, like "Sailing" (by Rod Stewart) and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (by Simon and Garfunkel), as well as a phenomenal tribute to Broadway featuring "I Dreamed a Dream" and "The Circle of Life". Of course, it also features original songs, such as the short and sweet "Smile" and of course, "Awakening". And Mairead Nesbitt's "The Foxhunter" is fast-paced and fun and absolutely mind-blowing.
Like with "Songs from the Heart", I can see a lot of "old" Celtic Woman fans being somewhat skeptical, as "Believe" is very different from "The New Journey" and Celtic Woman's first concert. Although I prefer the "old" Celtic Woman myself, I absolutely adored "Believe" and I'm sure many loyal Celtic Woman fans will enjoy it as well. Like all of their performances, there is a little something for everyone in "Believe", and I'm very grateful to them for introducing me to many traditional Irish songs that I would have never heard before if it weren't for their glorious covers of them. They are definitely one of the best Irish groups in the world (if not THE best!).
I highly recommend "Believe" for any Celtic Woman fanatic, any Irish music lover, and for anyone who likes great music.
Celtic Woman: A New Journey (2006)
Phenomenal performance by a phenomenal music group!
I first listened to Celtic Woman over a year ago (I know, I've been missing out for years!), and I can honestly say they are my all-time favorite music group. They have the voices of angels, their music (which is mostly a blend of traditional Irish music, classical music, and contemporary music) is absolutely lovely, and they are just so beautiful and graceful and truly incredible to watch. And on top of that, they are all so real and kind-hearted, and just as mind-blowingly beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. What's not to love?! This performance takes place at Slane Castle in Ireland and it offers a little something for everyone - from a stunning performance of "Scarborough Fair" by guest star Hayley Westenra, to Mairead Nesbitt's fun and energetic "Granuaile's Dance", to their incredibly catchy version of the traditional Irish folk song "Spanish Lady" (which was the first Celtic Woman song I had ever heard, and the song that made me fall in love with the indescribably amazing group).
Fans of great music, you do NOT want to miss this!
