I Flunked Sunday School (2006)
Lloyd Boyd becomes a personal preacher without attending seminary or being ordained by any denomination.
I saw this film at the Secret City Film Festival where it won the top award for feature films.
Having seen lots of independent Christian films, my expectations for I Flunked Sunday School were not high. However I was pleasantly surprised by the story line which used Lloyd Boyd, personal preacher as the yarn that weaves together three subplots.
The characters are well developed. They are likable and humorous. Many of us will see ourselves and others we know in these characters who tend to lead Lloyd into awkward situations.
I highly recommend this film to everyone, but Christians will be especially pleased to see a Christian film that finds humor and love rather than preaching and judgment.
Kitty Hawk: The Wright Brothers' Journey of Invention (2003)
A documentation of the trials, dangers, and determination that lead to the formation of a great invention.
I saw this film at the 2004 Secret City Film Festival in Oak Ridge, Tennesse. I must say this is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. This film has made me want to visit Kill Devil Hills and learn all I can about the Wright Brothers. The film went beyond the invention to the histories and personalities of the brothers. We get a glimpse of their relationships with co-workers, and the North Carolina locals. The audience experiences the family dynamics and personal struggles that let the young inventors to continue against the odds in a race to invent that resulted in death for many of their competitors. The film also explains what happened after the experiments at Kitty Hawk, mentioning the impact of the airplane in commerce and war. We also learn a bit about the Wright Brothers' personal lives in the latter years of their lives.
