That's It? Now I'm The Mad One.

For all of it's majestic and creative moments, this experience did not land for me. It's flat story and disjointed writing kept me from feeling invested in what should of otherwise been a horror mash up masterpiece.

Top Shelf For This Genre

As a fan of the "coming of age" story structure, I am happy to report that this film met my expectations in every single way. Some key plot points were predictable, but the writing, performances and soundtrack were all on point. The emotions and experiences the film conveys do not feel artificial, and Hailee Steinfeld shines! Intelligent writing and little twists here and there will likely leave you genuinely invested in the life of these characters and leave you wanting more. Woody Harrelson plays a wonderful image of a teacher dealing with his life amidst high school drama and Kyra Sedgwick's performance as a struggling mother was especially heart felt and real. This is not to be missed for fans of this genre!

Met and Exceeded My High Expectations

300: Rise of an Empire is a loyal continuation of the story told in the last film. It is not a departure from the story, but rather a wider view of what was going on before, during and after the Spartans met their glory.

It is true to Frank Miller's vision and is a wonderful action film on it's own. The characters are likable and the story keeps you hooked. The 3D is actually well utilized and helps the scope of the large naval battles feel realistic and understandable.

This is an absolute must see for anyone who enjoyed the first film or even if you are looking for a fresh take on slow motion, six pack abbed violence.
