Locating Silver Lake (2018)
A boy becoming a man and finding himself
This is a neat little story about "the post college abyss" and a boy finding himself after college and becoming a man. Along the way he meets a diverse and interesting bunch of characters. I liked the movie a lot. The only thing that truly bothered me was the end. Her sister is in the pool either dead or dying and could possibly still be saved but instead of calling medics or police she literally runs off to try to find her boyfriend of a couple of weeks instead. It made me lol.
Four Good Days (2020)
Extremely unrealistic
Not that I was expecting a documentary, but they missed the mark so badly. The way the mom was acting like if she can just make it through the first few days of sobriety to get the Subutex shot then she would somehow be miraculously out of the woods and cured. Meanwhile the daughter spends the first four critical days lounging around the house, not attending a single meeting or counseling session. Made her detox look basically like a walk in the park. I suppose it could be somewhat entertaining for people who have no clue about the realities of heroin addiction, but to those who do it's kind of a slap in the face.
