Inside Bill's Brain: Decoding Bill Gates (2019)
The glorification of Bill Gates
Look, I don't hate Bill Gates and I don't love him either. He surely is a smart brain who (not on his own) was able to create one of the biggest companies out there. When I opened this documentary I hoped for a nuanced view on this person. A crazy mind with lots of motivation to change the world, but also a human-being who might lost himself in that process. But the documentary was basically just saying : Bill Gates is so amazing, he has such a big brain (they literally say that a few times) and his flaws are only, that he is always trying to work even harder. It's basically a glorification on all the good that Bill has down, including some "clarifications" on why the criticism against him is actually not fair.
In the end, the only negatives of him seem to be his motivation to continue trying, even if there is no solution. It's not a bad doc, was interesting to see his projects, but it felt more like a commercial for him than a nuanced and neutral depiction of him.
Stranger Things (2016)
Season 1 was incredible, Season 2 dissapointing, Season 3 better than 2, but feels forced too often.
It's a shame...I loved Season 1, they nailed everything, from the nostalgia to cinematography, to a little, mysterious story, kept small through the disbelief of the city...but the sequels just couldn't keep the story low-key and that comes with a huge loss for the overall quality and vibe of the series...
Go ahead and watch Season 1, but k
treat is like it has no second season...
What/If (2019)
Cliché heaven - Such a bad tv-show
I hate this show, it's so aweful....so aweful in fact, I had to keep watching, because I couldn't believe someone can pull it off & make a show so clichéd and non sensical---my god, please don't watch this.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Too many flaws to enjoy the movie...Started really nice, but gets annoying at 30 minute mark.
So I finally saw Star Wars VII and Oh my...this movie has a lot of flaws - When it does things right, which sadly doesn't happen a lot, it does it perfectly.
Good Things:
- The movie looks and sounds insanely beautiful. The wide panorama shots are breath-taking. Please watch this movie in 2D though.
- The acting is solid, I think all the new actors did a good job.
- Pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) is awesome! Thumbs up for that X- Wing scene! It might have been my favorite scene...I did care for this pilot more than I did for any other character in the movie..
- The Intro and the first 30 minutes are AWESOME...almost everything makes sense (Except the main plot point) and I was even proud of the script writer : When Rey and Finn escape with the Millennium Falcon, they fly past the crashed star destroyer, where she used to collect scrap she then sold...so she actually knows the insides of the ship and therefore knows how to maneuver the ship inthere! THAT SCENCE was a perfect example of a smart written script! It actually made so much sense, I was surprised!
- The scenes that were actually good, were REALLY GOOD.
The flaws of the movie:
- Main plot : There's a map leading to Lukes location - Okay wait, first of all where is that map coming from? Luke certainly didn't make that map, because he purposely vanished - he did NOT want to be found. Secondly, why is that map split into multiple parts? - Pilot Poe gets a part from that old man in the beginning and gives it to BB8, which is the last piece of the map, that was necessary in order to find Lukes location... - You gotta understand, that this flaw already takes you out of the movie. The main problem of the film, the 'good' guys are trying to solve, only seems to be there because the movie needs it to be. Here's how you could have fixed it Disney:
After Kylo Ren turns to the dark side, Luke mistrusts his own teaching skills and needs time to recover from that event, therefore he travels to a location far away. But before he does, he gives Lea a map to said location and tells her, that she should only seek him out, when she needs help or whatever. It would have made so much more sense in my opinion.
- Rey = Main character = Invincible & good in anything: Rey's ability to instantly use the force she just discovered in ways she could only know if she has seen the other Star Wars movies is really annoying. In one scene, Kylo Ren can easily knock her out with his force and when she finds out about her abilities, she can read his (Kylo Rens) mind AND controls a mind of a soldier? A little bit to convenient for my taste...
- (Love-)Relationship between Rey & Finn : This one bothered me the most. These two character meet at jakku, have a longer flight together and then they split...but when they do, they pretend like they know each other for months and months...it's so ridiculous...I mean for god's sake, he risks the lives of hundreds just to save her (I will discuss that point later), even though he doesn't know anything about her. I wouldn't mind this flaw that much, but the 'love/romantic'-scenes are dragged out so utterly long, it's mind blowing... It was painfully hard to watch these scenes, without thinking "they literally just met a few hours ago" over and over again.
- CONVENIENCE. This movie has a lot in it: 1.Han Solo takes Rey & Finn to an old friend of him, Maz Kanata, because she can bring the droid BB8 home - and guess what, that same person has Luke's laser-sword! HOW FU**ing convenient! 2.When Maz Kanata confronts Rey (after she touched Luke's laser-sword) she runs into the woods, so Kylo Ren can conveniently take her hostage. Why Rey, do you run into the woods, for what reason? Couldn't you have just run out to recover? 3.At the end of the movie Rey strikes down Kylo Ren, but guess what...before he gets killed, the floor splits in half EXACTLY in between Rey & Kylo Ren, so she can't finish him off...lazy writing anybody? 4.Rey can handle everything. The biggest convenience is Reys ability, to pretty much master anything she touches: She knows how to fly every ship, she knows how to accurately shot with a blazer the first time she uses one, she knows how to close doors at the exact moment to save Finn, she knows how to use the force as soon as she finds out about it, she knows how to use a laser-sword the moment she takes it in her hand... etc. etc. you get my point.. Moving on.
Best regards people, hopefully the next one does a better job and has more dialogue that has actual weight.
PS: I had to cut the review down a little bit (1000 word limit).
