Fantasy

The second season is utter tripe. It's an appalling state of affairs that a cast of this quality and a good budget have been given such a dreadful script to work with. Even if this was advertised as a fantasy series, it would be unbelievable. The first series was very, very good, if a little cliched but this second series is laughably poor. I imagine some of the crazy plot points are to please the American market because they are hilariously un-British. I don't expect complete realism from a television drama but one can only suspend one's disbelieve for so long. The cast really do a stirling job with meagre pickings.

Clunky

Oh dear. This is a well meaning film but, at times, it comes across as a Poundland version of Game of Thrones. I'm not actually suggesting that it has stolen lots of plotlines from GoT but there are certainly similarities at points. Millie Bobby Brown, as usual, steals the show but I would like to see her stretch herself, at some point, in a more challenging role. She could play this part in her sleep. I'm sure this will be extremely popular with young girls who are looking for a sassy and determined figure as a role model, and so it should be. It's certainly not awful but it lacks any originality. It is well made and there are many worse films around, just don't expect too much.

Truly Awful
7 December 2023
This is one of the worst films I have ever seen. I cannot think of a single redeeming thing about the this movie. The writing is incredibly poor, the direction is less than workmanlike and the soundtrack is lacking any punch. There are more holes in the plot than a colander. It's so incredibly unfunny unless you're a fan of Saturday Night Live comedians doing their usual shtick. I fail to understand how it ever got commissioned by any film company, they should be ashamed of themselves for inflicting this third rate bilge on an unsuspecting public. A couple of the actors do try their best but, with so little to work with, they have no chance.

Totally Average
8 October 2023
This is a movie of completely average movie that had the potential to so much better. It's a mix of 'Scream' and 'Back To The Future' without the wit or style of either. The cast are excellent but they have nothing to work with. A pedestrian and predictable script leaves them struggling but they do their very best and deserve praise for not phoning in their performances. I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised to see a sequel, judging by the reviews on here. I am clearly not as easily pleased as some people. The comedy was obvious and not very funny whilst the horror element was not very scary. Not awful, just totally average.

Misses The Target
8 July 2023
There's some very fine acting in this gun-fest. Unfortunately it is seriously undermined by a disappointing script. Much of the directing also leaves a lot to be desired. It's supposed to be a black comedy but it's missing one key element...the humour. The comedy misses the mark and is simply not funny.

It has many of the elements of a Coen brothers film without the true finesse. It's not completely awful by any means and there is much to admire but don't expect a classic. Liam Neeson gives a fine performance, understated and subtle while Emmy Rossum also shines.

I wouldn't avoid the film but you might be a little bit underwhelmed.

Looks Wonderful
2 March 2023
Terrific performances and wonderful settings but parts of the script left a lot to be desired. The searching for why she was sacked is ridiculous, it's because she had a massive ego but little talent. This is clearly portrayed so to suggest it was because men were afraid of her is nonsense.

There is much to like about the show, particularly the performances of Helena Bonham Carter and Mark Gattis, although the rest of the ensemble were excellent as well. It was very well shot and the Manchester Opera House made a lovely substitute for whatever theatre they ere supposed to be in. It's definitely worth watching but don't believe everything you see or.

COMPLETELY OVERRATED
7 October 2022
I don't understand the amount of praise this series receives when it is just another in a long line of American dramas with a stereotypical cast of misfits. Despite its futuristic, sci-fi setting it is a western featuring a group of outlaws with a hearts of gold. Also, like most American dramas, guns and violence feature heavily and in fact, without the bloodshed, nothing would be resolved.

The plots are hackneyed, the writing is predictable and there is absolutely nothing new in this programme. There are so many series that are interchangeable it becomes tedious.

America glorifies violence and worships it's outlaws, whether they be gangsters, rogue cops or superheroes and this is one more television show in the pantheon of bloody stars.

Dreadful
14 August 2022
There is nothing in this episode that resembles any other episode in the series. There's often a tendency for characters to act out of character to suit the writers mood but this episode is embarrassingly bad. They've even introduced a character for Brennan to talk to who has never been seen before and is never seen again.

NO SENSE

Warning: Spoilers
Either this episode is wrong or episode 1 of season 1 is wrong. The characters have clearly never met before in s1;e1 and Cam is not even in the same city. This is a common problem with American tv series and I don't understand why they do it.

Repeating
17 March 2020
In my first review I said how much I enjoy this show and that it had similarities to Hustle. The problem is, after a season and a half, you realise that it is the same con repeated over and over and over and over. Unlike Hustle, which had rich and varied cons with much character development, after two and a half seasons I know little more about this bunch than I did at the start. They are walking cliches. It's an enjoyable show but it doesn't have any depth.

Very Entertaining
12 March 2020
I have only recently discovered Leverage and have to say how enjoyable it is. I agree with some of the other reviews on here that it is not as good as Hustle. The characters are pleasant but not very defined and the plots are generally very obvious. It also suffers from the American sentimentality of having a little homily in most episodes and it is sometimes cliched. Despite that, the acting is excellent and it is well worth watching.

Dreadful
12 June 2018
This is one of the poorest programmes I have ever watched. It is an awful example how American's think the British law and press work but bears no resemblance to real life. It is full of cliché's and plot holes the Red Arrows could fly through. There is no excuse for such lazy research, presuming any was done at all. Don't waste your time, avoid at all costs.
