Eli (2019)
Bottom Line, worth the watch!
This is a creepy movie, seriously. Not a goofy put together in a basement movie, but really well thought out and executed.
I'm a fan of suspenseful thriller types of 'ghost movies', not a fan of demonic, gory, violent or bloody movies. This is a great movie if you like the same genre as I do.
The actors are great, Lili Taylor is on of my all time favorite, she was in the Conjuring, Six Feet Under and The Haunting. great actress.
So the story, many levels of creepy, and questions to figure out. Great story, great acting, especially the main character.
The ending..what can be said, see for yourself!
The 100 (2014)
hard to say
I have been semi-binge watching starting season 1, started off ok, except for one actor, which I'll touch on later. This is a A really weird mix of Lost, Lord of the Flies (on crack), Jim Jones cultish thing going on with a lot of extreme violence. I'm p;y up to season 4 or 5. Though it is addicting. It is also dark. I don't mean dark as in mood, as in brightness. It is dark 95 percent of the time.
Which to me says the budget is low so they hide things behind low lighting. That is irritating to me personally, but hey..that's me.
I'm not a sci-fi buff nor am I an aerospace engineer, so I have no comments on whether those aspects are correct, but then again, does it matter?
That cast is generally good, typical mix of teenagers, typical character portrayals.
Semi-Spoiler?
the blonde lead actress is insanely annoying. she belongs in a cheap teen scream movie. there is no facial expression short of looking pitiful, no personality, pretty much nothing. She avoids death constantly and I just want that character killed off by a gorilla or something.
Assimilate (2019)
Good Movie
Yes this is basically a spinoff of Body Snatchers, but with a twist. Infusing some modern technology and 'spy cam' footage. I think the characters were good, a bit flat buy believable. i wish there was more Cam Gigandet, but other than that..pretty perfect cast.
If you like a bit of suspense, a bit of sci-fi, you will like this. I personally like movies where you can chat about what you would do if.. this one give that opportunity
I think the Invasion of the Body Snatchers was and is a great movie, I see no reason to stop trying to build on that foundation as long as some whacky producer jumps the shark
Nightlight (2015)
Spend 90 Min Elsewhere
I'm all for "found video" type movies, but this was pretty bad. Basically 60 minutes of flashlights falling to the ground, dropping video cameras, lights flashing on trees. 15 minutes of screaming names over and over. 10 minutes of people and 5 minutes of suspense. You won't want to look away because you are afraid you may miss something good, but feel free to look away, leave the room, wash the car or plan a vacation. You won't miss anything. I stated spoiler alert due to my comment of the 'reveal' of the flashlights role in the movie. If there was character development instead of just dropping a batch of typical teenagers in the woods at night, then this may have worked. Any move that spends more than 30 min filming at night should be avoided totally, any movie that thinks attractive teenagers in the woods alone at night will draw a following, also to be avoided
The Happening (2008)
Perfectly entertaining
This is a perfectly entertaining movie, I mean we aren't going for an Academy Award, just 90 minute reprieve from the day. I enjoyed it. I am not a film buff or care about errors or evaluate life through a directors glass, I thought Mark and Zoe were great. It was as believable as it gets considering the scenario. The most suspense is waiting to see what will happen next and how, there are surprises and a shock or two. I wouldn't recommend it for children being it can be taken as entirely realistic and if sensitive, may not go near any foliage for a very long time. See it, it is good, but if you figure out what really is happening though, let me know :)
Burlesque (2010)
Go Sister..
I've watched this movie many times on reruns (TV). Christine has an incredible talent and frankly I'd watch just the parts with her singing. But she did very well as an actress and wasn't just 'used' because of her killer voice. The movie runs a typical plot with the unknown girl with a hidden talent who goes from the rags to riches while trying to balance her personal life with career, and of course the gambit of choosing the 'right guy'. The relationships between characters was very good. I totally love Stanley Tucci in anything he does, and as usual, he was great in this. Cher needs no praise, we all know she is crazy talented and though her character in this movie was kind of flat and predictable, just having Cher in the movie was enough
