RV (2006)
Not bad at all
I recently went to the cinema with two of my friends to see this movie. I'm fifteen years old, and so are my friends, and we simply had nothing better to do on a Saturday morning. I have seen the adverts for this movie and TV and it looked slightly cheesy, if not a little cringe-worthy. But I tried to forget about this and went in with an open mind, but still slightly critical and waiting for these bad moments to happen.
But I failed to find many cheesy bad moments. The starting was quite good and it quickly had you involved with the plot, looking forward to following the family vacation in an RV and to see what would happen. The side plot with the boss didn't interest me much, but as soon as they were off in their RV the cinema was ringing with laughter. The thing that got me was how different types of people laughed at different times. When Robin Williams' character struggled with his seat belt, many small children were laughing and enjoying this part.
As the movie got underway, it really had you gripped and you wanted to find out more about the characters. As they parked in an RV park, they met a new family which featured some of my favourite characters from this movie. I really liked the mother from the other family, and the eldest son - Earl.
I think the great thing about this film is that it appeals to everyone. Adults will laugh at some of the jokes that simply pass over children's heads (the part about "that sort of nap"), also the adult characters feature some quite well known names of actors and actresses. Teenagers will be interested in the two teenage characters (Cassie and Earl) and the whole idea of relating to be dragged on holiday with your family. Then children will go for the funny jokes and slapstick comedy, and also for the younger actors such as the young sons of each family.
Overall, I would give this movie an 8/10. Not the best movie ever made. But not the worst either.
Timeblazers (2003)
Very Good
I saw this TV show a few weeks ago, and I must say I really enjoyed it. It teaches a lot about History and makes it both funny and enjoyable to learn about. It's great for young kids who want to extend their knowledge and learn interesting facts that they can use about History. I like the way the two presenters dress up as the Historic figures and act like them, I always find this amusing. The two presenters also seem to work well together and use this to make both a funny and fun to watch show. A good one to watch if you are interested in this sort of stuff.
Some of the jokes can be a bit cheesy and predictable, but I find that this helps you to remember the facts. Also, something happens in modern day life in the show that sparks off all the Historic facts. For example if something happens to the child that they follow around, the two presenters will look through History for historic replicas of this scene. I enjoyed it!
The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Awesome!
This is definitely my all time favourite movie! A brilliant adaption of the heart touching story of the Phantom of the Opera, with greatly performed songs and musical pieces, and brilliant acting from Butler and Rossum.
I give it a full 10 out of 10 and I would recommend seeing it! It truly is a great film!
The Phantom of the Opera is played by Gerard Butler, the part of Christine Daae is played perfectly by Emmy Rossum, and the part of the Vicomte (Raoul) is played by Patrick Wilson. Also Madamme Giry's role is filled by Miranda Richardson, who in my opinion did a great job in this role.
Also Jennifer Ellison makes a film appearance as Madamme Giry's daughter, Meg Giry. Also, the talented singer Minnie Driver takes up the role of the diva, Carlotta.
The songs in this film are amazing! My favourite songs are the Phantom of the Opera, Think of Me, Past the Point of No Return and Music of the Night. Overall, brilliant!
10/10
Without a Paddle (2004)
Good for a Laugh
I only went to see this cos my friend asked me if I wanted to, and I never turn down going to the cinema. Plus, I had actually seen the trailers for this movie and thought it looked rather funny. It tells the tale of three friends who go on a treasure hunt in memory of their friend, Billy.
Seth Green plays a 'scared of everything' doctor called Dan Mott or 'Danno' to his friends.
Matthew Lillard plays the brave Jerry Conlaine, he's basically the leader of the group and is known as 'Jer' to his mates.
Dax Shepard plays the humorous Tom Marshall, or 'Tommy' to his mates. He is the flirt of the group and makes most of the jokes.
I thought this film was good, but I would only recommend it to:
- Teenagers - Young Adults - Some Adults
Most of the jokes are cheesy, but a lot of them shine through and the story makes you remember about how to stick with your mates and you'll be fine.
However, the jokes and plot sometimes get a bit cheesy so that you cringe, but it is a good movie overall.
