Out of Time (1988)
quite possibly the best film ever!!!!
If you haven't seen "Out of Time" starring the great Bruce Abbott and the wonderful Bill Maher in this fantastic science fiction action thriller, then you haven't lived. It's a great premise, a great grandson goes back in time to help his great grandfather save the world! Isn't that great. It's action packed, suspenseful and emotionally gripping at the same time. I cried at the end, and the special fx are mind blowing, even for today's standards. Go rent "Out of Time" and if you can't find it, order it. You won't be disappointed !!! Not only is it a beautiful and touching film, but Abbott's performance is so engaging, it explodes! See it or be square!

King Kong (2005)
What makes a remake respectable? Jackson knows. . .
Indeed, in todays world, when one attempts a remake, sometimes it's flaws may be that it strays too far from the original, and in that, loses the essence of what made the original such a classic. Other times a remake may be too close a resemblance to it's predecessor, as in Gus Van Sants' "Psycho", when one considered, "what was the point of this film?".
What I believed came out of Peter Jackson's King Kong, was a pleasant mixture of the two. The film keeps its retro 1930's feel and spectacular dramatization yet blends Jackson's own likable characters, unique back-stories and well placed comedic elements.
King Kong is not an easy film to remake. When one sits down and considers, "this is a story about a giant vicious gorilla that falls in love with a beautiful blonde woman", one has to obviously have patience for such a tale. I was dragged to see this film, and, although I felt it was a bit too long, I would definitely see it again. And, to me, that makes quite a good remake.
