Toby (2023)
Climax song was out of place
Actors did their job very well. Although the middle portion lagged a little , it was all right. Movie overall was decent.
The major complaint is have with movie is the ending sequence , which is the climax fight. Who chose the background music for the fight? That song was so out of place. It didn't fit the tone of the movie at all. Music selection plays a large role in making a scene or breaking a scene. Unfortunately in this the background score ruined the whole movie.
I was waiting to see how the revenge will be carried out and I was so disappointed with the overuse of slow motion and that song.
Would have easily given an 8* if they placed a decent bgm for the climax.
Adanga Maru (2018)
Mid but Watchable
Story is somewhat similar to the Hollywood movie 'law abiding citizen '. This movie even has a very similar dialogue to the - 'It's Not What You Know, It's What You Can Prove' from the Hollywood movie.
I found the first 20 minutes to be somewhat cliche and boring. Our hero is portrayed as a police officer who wants to help people but cannot do so as he is under pressure from superiors and has to obey them.
This turns to somewhat vigilante style when a minister's son doesn't respect traffic rules and disrespects the hero. Then our hero tracks down the minister's son and thrashes him without letting him seeing his face. Scene should have ended there But then he proceeds to beat up other people showing his face.
After the 20 min, the main plot starts and the movie is very engaging for almost an hour. Hero arrests sons of very powerful people but can't prove it as evidence video auto deletes from their phone. Then villains kills hero's family for revenge. The entire police department is shown to be supporting villains and hero resigns from the job to take revenge. Then one by one villains are taken care of.
Majority of movie his fellow police officers are shown as corrupt and having a lack of empathy. Even when hero's family dies, they don't show any empathy. But Towards the end of movie the police are suddenly shown as supportive .
After the initial engaging storyline, the movie again turns somewhat cliche. This coupled with some bad acting from villains makes it very boring to watch.
Movie ending shows him back as police but it is also revealed that he continues to kill criminals. Why did he even become police officer again if he just wants to kill people??
I find jayam ravi's character to be somewhat morally lacking. He takes law into his own hands ragularly and this should have been shown as wrong. Atleast in law abiding citizen, Gerard Butler's character dies in the end after he exceeded the moral line but here no repercussions for the hero . He becomes police and continues to kill and lives happily ever after.
I feel like this ending is very distasteful. They should have shown him as an honest cop and that the police department is not afraid of influential people.
Jawan (2023)
Meh
A Villain who is the 4th largest weapon's manufacturer in the world but his guns don't work...?? Also are u really expecting people to believe that Soldiers never tested the gun before they went into mission ??
For comparison in the Ajith movie aarambam, only the Kevlar had manufacturing defect and that was kind of believable but here all the guns are faulty which is just stupid. Atleast make it so that only few guns had manufacturing problems.
I usually do like vigilante type story lines but the stories and villain needs to be better written. Also this movie is similar to a lot of other south indian movies. Almost feels like they handpicked a lot of scenes from many hit movies and made this one.
Srk has acted well and his action sequences are pretty fun and stylized but that doesn't save the movie for me.
Also I was really looking forward to see Vijay Sethupathi's character cos usually his performance is very unique but in this movie he is just a generic villain.
Gandeevadhari Arjuna (2023)
Why though?
The whole movie is centred around a journalist transporting a storage device containing File-13, which contains proof of a company's misdeeds, to a minister, so that he can release it at UN summit.
But this file-13 is revealed to be a video file and I don't really understand why people are physically transporting the storage containing the file, when they could just sent it online.
Usually in movies like this, there will be a reason as to why the file cannot be released to public as it will have some sort of negative impact if public learns about it. But in this movie, releasing the file online would be an instant win for the good guys.
The movie would be over in 5 minutes if the journalist just uploaded the video to Twitter . Or she could have sent the video to the minister and then the minister could have posted it or given it to media.
It's unfortunate that there is such a large plot hole because the movie was shot well as well as acted well. But it's very hard to enjoy a movie when there is such a large plot hole.
Heart of Stone (2023)
Boring & cliche
Movie is so boring that it took me about 5 tries to get through it. Script is very poorly written. Even casting is pretty bad.
While gal gadot is good for this role , her dialogue delivery is pretty bad. Then there's the villain who doesn't really convey any feeling of menace or threat to audience and is one of the most boring part of the movie. I mean he does kill people and all, but his villain role as a whole and his flat lifeless acting in this makes it boring and less believable. The script also has too many cliche dialogues and scenes.
It really baffles me that the writers were able to make this kind of action packed theme into a boring mess of a movie.
The Witcher (2019)
Going to stop watching after Henry Cavill leaves.
Season 1 was peak. Loved Cavill's performance as Geralt. Some casting decisions were questionable but overall a good season. This was Good starting for the series.
Overall 8.5/10
Season 2 went downhill . They clearly some questionable decisions. Story deviated from the source by a lot. Geralt's screen time is a lot less and most of screentime is dedicated to side characters and unnecessary stories. If you are gonna make a show about witcher, then make sure the main character is the witcher. People tune in to watch the Witcher and not the side characters. Also the Political drama part is very boring.
The show writers added a conflict between Yen and Ciri and this is a little too much as the Yen's actions are of serious consequences and almost makes her whole character irredeemable in Ciri's eyes.
Writers gonna have to do some incredible story telling to make us believe that yen and siri will have mother daughter relationship in future, which i don't think they are capable of.
Also they killed one of my favourite character from games for no reason.
Overall 1/10
Season 3 is absolute mediocre.
Writers kinda backed themselves into a corner after they made stupid decisions in season 2. So now a Lot of time is used to redcon the conflict between yen and ciri, and this is not very believable and is also very boring.
Lots of character decisions don't make sense, like witcher not killing someone after defeating them, but then deciding to track and kill him in next episode.
Ciri is often left alone even though 4 different groups are trying to capture her.
Francesca was a very powerful sorceress in season 2 but in season 3 she immediately faints after a small attack from Yennifer.?!
Again most of screen time is given to political drama part and not the witcher storyline. Atleast political drama part is a little better than season 2.
The writers After promising the show will absolutely adhere to source material, then decided to not follow the source material.
Overall rating: 3.
The Rookie (2018)
Loved season 1 and 2
First two seasons had well written characters. Casting decisions seems to a solid positive and The interactions between characters were fun to watch. Show knew when to be funny and when to be serious moment and had me binge watch the first 2 seasons in a couple of days. Nathan fillion is amazing and has his usual charm.
I recommend people to watch the first 2 seasons as these are actually good.
Unfortunately from season 3 on wards show starts its decline. I don't really understand why every show from Hollywood now a days has to show the people of color as some sort of victims. As each episode progresses the show becomes less about cop show and more about pushing political messages.
I was hoping this show wouldn't start virtue signalling. But after watching season 3 i was clearly wrong. And after reading some of ratings for season 4 , i realised that I should have stopped watching after season 2.
