DoppelPack (2000)
This is life
This movie just popped out from nowhere. Based on the short film "pas de deux" from 1998 featuring the same actors, it is simply one of the best movies I have ever seen. I know this area and I even know people exactly as they are shown. Hoffi and Lehmi, the two main characters could be your neighbors, your friends, your children. Maybe their lifestyle is different than yours but it still is real.
There is not much of a story. It's more like following those two guys all day long. And that's what it is all about. You meet them like friends. You spend one day with them and you begin to like them and hope that they'll succeed. And then your life continues and you know, you're not alone...
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Don't even think about wasting your time like that...
I don't get it. Everything would have been there. Great Actors, a nice effect team and a great universe to tell stories. But Lucas screwed everything.
The story is just awful. The Characters are stereotypes and therefor totally unbelievable. The dialogs are as clever as TV soap operas. You know every line in advance and the love-story is totally embarrassing. Lucas must have a mind of a fourteen year old, when I was at that age I had the same ideas about relationships. I usually don't care about logical flaws. But the way they jump out in this movie drove me nuts. Why does an apprentice Jedi has to protect a seriously endangered Senator on his first mission? Did Anakins mother wait for him to arrive so she could die and why did they tie her up in the first place? etc etc
Of course star wars films are not known for their stories as they are for their effects and action sequences. The visual effects are technically amazing. The renders are quite realistic. CG and real life action blend together very well. But the colors are just too much. There's something blinking everywhere. But I think that's a matter of taste.
But the action is not. I know a Jedi is really strong and stuff. But you simply can't jump onto a flying car e few hundred meters under you. Or how do they survive a few thousand attacking soldiers with guns with simply one laser sword and without any cover.
I really like the actors. They did brilliant jobs on other movies. But they seem to be overextended by all the green-screen acting and non existent characters.
I didn't see episode 3 and I won't. I loved the original star wars and I want to keep them just as they are...
