Ripley (2024)
Purely Striking & the Stairs...
I can't say enough good things about this. I was skeptical at first being that this has done before. I won't spoil it for you but I've never seen black and white done so well. It actually seemed like a type of greyscale that had some hue. I'm no colour expert. The cinematography moves your imagination. It almost seemed as it allowed you to fill in the colour in your mind. I don't know who the main star was. Was it Ripley or was it the stairs. As someone that has been to Italy, It represents well. There is something about all of the sounds in this series as well. Everything is so intentional with every clink of glass on a table to every heal to toe step on all those steps in those loafers. No wonder the Italians are so thin. The plot and acting very well done too! But, I have to say... Congratulazioni! Perfezione in bianco e nero!!
The Rehearsal (2022)
There is nothing like this out there.
Even if you are a fan of Nathan for you or not. I've never seen this done before. I am blown away. He went to a level that I did not think possible. I know I am not doing it justice, but it seems like he wanted to create a way to get inside someone's head and expose their fears and anxieties. Yes, it's comedy. Yes, it's also exposing how irrational people can get. We all do this.
I heard some comedian talking recently about how dry it is out there. They were sick of all the "woke" bits out there. Well, I know they haven't seen this. Not a lot of people give credit to Nathan Fielder.
Ricky Gervais: SuperNature (2022)
It's so funny that...
What comedian do you know that laugh's (cackle's) at his own material and it makes you laugh even more. Watched it three times so far just to show different people all the funny bits in it. And, I don't care that he's a millionaire. If I was a millionaire, then I would give a 10.

Like a bad cup of coffee
You know that taste you get when you know you've had too much coffee even if it is fresh and know you need to stop. It's like that. The plot, theme, premise all had so much more potential. A lot of the acting was lack luster and seemed forced. A lot of the plot line seemed predictable and dragged out. I don't have problems with the "F bomb", but this seemed over used.
Hitsville: The Making of Motown (2019)
Interesting lessons in human endeavors
This was well done. I walked away with learning more about Motown than I knew before. If, I walk away from something and draw parallels into my own experience through understanding more about humankind, then this documentary goes to a deeper level for me.
At the end of it all, we are all uniquely individual, no matter how a movement/organization tries to mold and shape you. If I picked up on the theme, then you will find that the part in the credits fascinating. Who else would you expect to remember the words to Hitsville, USA (The company's song).
I will always cherish the songs, the artists, and the movement! They created something that became bigger than themselves with their own unique individual signature.
Val (2021)
I couldn't finish it.
This was very moving for me. I learned so much about someone who I have watched his whole life. It seems that there was no rock unturned. I found it very reflective as someone who is also getting up there in age.
I couldn't watch the end because 1.) something came up and I had to stop (the true perk of streaming). 2.) it seemed symbolically cruel as if I was going to close the book on Val and put him on a shelf. I'm not ready to do that. Thank you for sharing your life whether you were acting or not!
How to with John Wilson (2020)
you either get this or you don't.
I love the randomness in this and how it is woven together. I'm just glad i understand it and how i laughed so hard.
Blindspotting (2018)
Watched this in the middle of the George Floyd murder and protests
This brought me light to this issues right now. It went deep into racism and how it feels to be profiled wrongly. Strong acting with a lot of emotion even humor. Thanks for helping me feel some of the pain.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Epic, Brillant, Entertaining, Hilarious, Emotional - No Spoilers
This is so good on so many levels. It's epic Tarantino style. It's difficult to review something without spoilers. So, here's my attempt without spoiling the movie with some persuasion.
This is how you should watch this movie. If your reading this and you haven't seen the movie, STOP. Drop everything you're doing and watch it. You'll even want to clear your calendar that day for another viewing later in the day. Early in the morning when nobody was awake, then the same day about 12 hours later.
If I were comparing it to music, I would say it's like Tchaikovsky's '1812 Overture', Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven', or even 'Suite Madame Blue' by STYX. If you haven't listened to that music, STOP what your doing and listen to that.
The character development was rich and found me identifying with each one in various ways. They way the movie was woven together is something of fine linen tapestry. You have to experience for yourself. You have to appreciate it in your own way. All this to say, go watch it. If you don't love it, then you haven't LIVED enough yet. And with that; "It's official, good buddy, I'm a has-been".
