World's Most Neurotic Woman
30 April 2024
This is an excellent series but it's hard to watch because one main character, the mother, is the stupidest woman I've ever encountered in fiction or real life. How anyone could have ever been attracted to her and then actually married her is beyond comprehension. Sometimes it was so painful to watch her whining and displays of cluelessness, I had to fast forward to the next scene. How would a woman like that ever qualifiy for an adoption? She is so idiotic and selfish you want to slap her until she begins to resemble a normal human being. But again, this is a well-made production with fine acting and direction.

The usual Hollywood tripe though it's Canadian, as it were
19 March 2024
I was looking forward to this film as I love Quebed City and Quebec in general. I have ancestors from Beauport. But I wanted to stop watching 10 minutes into it. Why would a beautiful, talented, accomplished young woman be at all interested in a neurotic, weak, candyass loser like Gordon? It's just too preposterous to suspend one's disbelief in order to enjoy at least the scenery in the film. The storyline displalys one cliche after another. I don't understand how scripts like this get made. No, wait, I do: because Hollywood producers are all neurotic, weak candyasses who were able to move on from their careers in car sales or the clothing business or corporate law through nepotism or fraternity connections.

Wonderful film
23 September 2023
I have been writing about the arts in newspapers and magazines in the U. S. and Europe since the mid 1970s (starting as the dance reviewer for Chicago's The Reader newspaper. This film is a major artistic achievement. I guess if you are in the habit of watching American thrillers, horror movies and superhero drek, the film will seem slow to you. But this is a fine example of a harmonious mixture of beautiful choreography, intelligent narrative, effective and intriguing music and exquisite cinematography. A film like this doesn't come along very often, maybe once in five years. Have a glass of a fine mezcal, some good tobacco and sit back to let this film engage your soul..

What's there to get obsessed about?
13 April 2023
The story isn't bad but they chose the wrong actress. Her acting talents are fine, but I don't see how anyone could get obsessed about her. The haircut is off-putting, she has no sexual allure and no physical charms. For a man to get so obsessed about a woman and risk everything he has, the woman has to be exotic enough and mysterious enough to merit that. We have to believe that the man can lose himself fo deeply in the woman to behave the way he does, and there isn't even a modicum of chemistry between them. And why does every female lead in a film or series these days have to be a redhead?

Big disappointment.
