A Jazzman's Blues (2022)
Good cast in a bad movie
A good cast, good music and great cinematographie but a movie so full of klischees and stereotypes that it's almost ridiculous.
Young Bayou falls in love with beautiful Leanne. They could be so happy together but the script does not let this happen. The girl is raped by her evil grandfather. When the mean old man finds out about their relationship Leanne is sent to her evil mother. Bayou's father Buester leaves the family and his brother Willie follows him. The only person who ever believes in Bayou and protects him from his bullying father and brother is his mother Hattie Mae (great performance by Amirah Vann - the best actress in the whole movie!).
Years later Bayou gets his chance and becomes a night club attraction as a singer, the girl marries a rich white politician and Willie ends up as a sideman in his brother's band. He is also a heroin addict and a real pain-in-the-ass to his brother.
Almost every character here (except for Bayou, Leanne, Hattie Mae and Citsy) is mean and evil without any explanation. It is also never explained why Willie hates his brother so much that he is even responsible for his murdering at the end. Why is Leanne's grandfather such an evil character and why did her mother let her stay for such a long time with him? And why is Leanne's mother such a mean person? Nothing is really explained.
Great performances from Joshua Boone as Bayou, fantastic Amirah Vann as Hattie Mae, Bayou's mother and E. Roger Mitchell as Buster, his father but they can't save this movie.
Rollergator (1996)
I love Rollergator
Who does not love Rollergator? It's such a soulful, heart-warming, funny and touching story about true friendship.
Joe Estevez (Soultaker) as carnival owner Uncle Chi Chi gives a funny performance, so does Larry Maddox as his nephew, Ed-Wood veteran actor Conrad Brooks (Plan 9 from Outer Space) shows up as Swamp Farmer, who is searching for his friend, the gator. And lead actress Sandra Shuker as P. J. is such a sweetie. Her scenes with the gator are really wonderful.
P. J. And the gator make lots of friends on their journey until the gator finally is reunited with the Swamp Farmer. A family friendly and kids-orientated film from Donald G. Jackson.
This is not one of those boring million-dollar budget movies where the animation alone costs tons of money, this is low budget filmmaking, made from someone with a real passion and love for filmmaking. I love Rollergator.
M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder (2019)
Really bad
Writer/Director David Schalko has made some good stuff (Aufschneider) and a lot of bad stuff (Altes Geld). His remake of Fritz Langs classic movie "M" is bad, really bad.
It's so stylish that it becomes boring after watching it for a few minutes. The other problem is that there are too many people in it, too many good actors who are just wasted. There is also no real character development, the characters remain suferficial and one-dimensional. Some of the cast members give wooden performances and the direction is also not very good.
You'd better watch the original from 1931, which is a real masterpiece!
Paranormal Shades (2016)
Paranormal Horror Comedy
"Paranormal Shades" is one of the real surprises this year. A very funny, tongue-in-cheek parody of the "Paranormal Activity" Films. The paranormal scenes really cracked me up. If that ain't enough there are scenes with a weird Dominatrix, played by the wonderful Biggie Waite, and scenes with a starlet who wants to get handcuffed an whipped. "Fifty Shades of Grey" would have been a real good movie with these characters.
The story of a washed-up Horror movie actor, played by director Robert Tarantino himself, is also a reason for some Film-in-Film sequences. Some of the funniest scenes from earlier Robert-Tarantino movies can be seen here, especially "Vampire City 2: Rock 'N Roll Zombies from Outer Space", "Blood City Massacre" and "Lost in Vienna".
Robert Tarantino himself is a fine comedian and his cast is really awesome. Pro wrestler Seth Raven plays his best friend with a great comedy timing, Biggie Waite as Dominatrix sets the screen on fire and the rest of the cast fits perfect into this movie.
The gore scenes are awesome in a funny way, too. Watch this movie with your friends and lots of beer and you will get the perfect Halloween movie!
Camel Spiders (2011)
Big fun
When you watch a film with a title like "Camel Spiders" and you know that Roger Corman produced it and Jim Wynorski directed it you know exactly what you get. This is a cheesy monster movie, much funnier than the typical SciFi movies so please don't take it much too serious and do not compare it to those zillion Dollar Blockbuster Movies.
The spiders look OK, but the CGI blood, well, that's just another story. There are a lot of familiar faces in it. Brian Krause and C. Thomas Howell once had a serious career, now they are regulars in films from the SciFi channel and they're doing a good job here. B-Movie hotties Jessica Cameron and Paula Labaredas have also some very good but much too short appearances.
Some funny thoughts on this film: Whenever the spiders attack people they all jump on the people's faces and: whatever happened to the girls who ran away after their guys were killed by the spiders ?
If you like cheesy Trash Movies as much as I do you will have a great time watching "Camel Spiders".
Robert Tarantino (2013)
Filmmaking is his passion
This is the portrait of a young man who calls himself Robert Tarantino, because he is a huge fan of Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. He is also a Singer/Songwriter and a Comedian but Filmmaking is his greatest passion and most of his movies cost less than 100 Euro. And - like Robert Rodriguez in his first film - he is a rebel without a crew. Not only does he write the script, he's also the director, producer, director of photography, soundtrack composer, editor and - lead actor in his own films!
This is only possible because he uses auto focus, turns the camera around so he can see himself and - starts filming! The documentary follows him during the production of "Blood City Massacre" and it starts with the casting of the film. His lead actress is model/dancer, beautiful but with less film experience and a bimbo (and she does not even know the real names of the "X-File" characters, calls them Sully and Mully), his lead actor is a wrestler who calls himself Humungus, with tattoos from tip to toe.
So he starts filming with them. A very interesting and also funny look behind the making of a Trash Film, lots of dramatic scenes inclusive: one actor left the set after one day because he was angry that there was not a huge catering service on the set (of a no budget film!'). This is no problem for the creative filmmaker and his actors, they just change the script a little bit.
During the filming Robert Tarantino falls in love with his lead actress. Bad luck for him because she falls in love with one of the supporting actors. It's a little bit too much of a drama when Tarantino talks about his feelings.
Finally we see the premiere of "Blood City Massacre" and hear the proud director talking about that his film was invited to an Underground Film Festival just a few minutes after the upload of the film trailer.
So that's what I call an Happy Ending!
Das Werwolfspiel (2013)
Just bad and boring
If you expect an Horror movie or even an Thriller forget it. This is just badly directed and boring. A real disappointment.
The camera work is really terrible. There is not much moving in the camera work and when the camera moves the cameraman isn't able to pull the focus. Especially the outdoor scenes are all blurred. The lighting is terrible, too. Sometimes the actors are covered with shadows and that is not because of an artistically style.
The acting is bad, too. None of the characters gets a chance of development. One of the funniest scenes is when one of the female characters cuts the heart out from an male actor - she cuts the heart out from his stomach(!!) Doctor, Doctor - where are you when they need your help ?
Don't waste your time with this film. Better take some cards and play the Werwolvegame with your friends.
