Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
I expected more
Well, many sequels have also suffered from lazy writing as demonstrated in this movie. Alex and Keanu, aka Bill and Ted, still have amazing chemistry, and totally pulled off their respective characters in their more mature age. The rest of the cast did a decent job with what they've gotten. But, come on! The original movies had so many clever gags, and witty remarks, and musical moments. Where was music for this one? They had Megadeth, Faith No More, Kiss,Primus etc. before. Except for Mastodon. Two songs.
One thing that really bothers me is these so called music fans in movies written by people who clearly have no knowledge of rock genre overall. But they do like to sell themselves as rock n roll connoisseurs, or in this case, just lazy writing. They would pick a most obvious rock figure from the past and then revolve the whole band plot around them? Wouldn't it have been fun if they had chosen somebody else. I mean Hendrix, Mozzart and Armstrong? Come on, dude, way too obvious. Why not go to Tony Iommi, or Muddy Waters or Eddie Van Halen or Dimebag or Cantrell. I don't know, risk a little. Cave woman as a drummer? And that is not a lazy writting? Man, Mike Bordin, Dave Lombardo, Martin Lopez,John Bonham, Nick Menza..again, shake it up a little. Don't get me wrong, these guys are the best of the best ,but they are just a safe choice. Anyway, even they were misused. They added nothing to the story, they were just there to make time travel interesting. I am sure they had the means and time, they just lacked imagination. And that was what made previous movies so fun. I really wanted to like this movie. But it was really nothing special.
The Neverending Story (1984)
Don't be afraid to dream !
I have seen this movie for the first time when I was 26. If I had watched it when I was younger, maybe I would have liked it better. And I am very sorry I missed this gem when I was a little girl. So, overall, I am not a big fan of having children as protagonists, when they have to save the world, when they behave like adults. It sort of makes me cringe. Watching this movie felt a bit like a drag, and little too familiar. I see now how lots of other movies took their inspiration from The NeverEnding Story. However, it sends a great message near the end - do not be afraid to dream, to live your dreams. Watching the ending really felt inspiring. Music is absolutely fantastical. It brings the nostalgic feeling in me, given that I've grown up with movies from the 80's. I have mixed feelings about this movie, as you can see, but I am really glad I have finally watched it.
