Wyatt Earp (1994)
Unrealistic portrayal, bad acting, bad direction, boring
Kasdan is so great when he's great, and so horribly bad when he's bad. This is much too shiny. Wyatt Earp was arrested a few times as a pimp, his father likely did not train him as a lawman since he himself did it for such a short time between farming and other jobs. In short, Wyatt's upbringing is very sugar-coated. That includes clean clothes when certainly the level of development of the region at the time was dirtier than Hollywood chooses to portray. This sugar-coating is part of a long tradition of making the Wild West, which was rough and tumble and dirty, make it something glorious which it was not. Godless and others show that there are compelling stories to tell about the 2nd half of the 19th century in the American West without the shine. Silverado and this are just frightfully bad.
The Sun Is Also a Star (2019)
Why not hire Korean-American actors to play Korean-Americans
Only 1 of 4 of the actors playing the Korean family were actual Koreans. Why not make a bit more effort for authenticity in the casting?
It's a cute story, mostly well executed. But having one huge coincidence is enough, such as the two important appointments being held in the same building, but it was very silly to have both appointments be with the same person working in different fields. Silly to the point of distraction.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
boring!
Bad acting and a script that lacks any credibility. A high school freshman mixing to this degree with a group of seniors? An outwardly gay student not getting any abuse, especially in the era the film depicts? Charlie wearing a tie so often? Wine always available to these kids at their parties? Charlie the only one eating the hash brownie and taking the hit of acid? How could the fight scene go on so long in the school cafeteria without any teacher/monitor ever present? Even with the built-up rage Charlie had inside, how could this scrawny kid stop the gang beating underway? These are a few of my many questions for the film makers and those who wrote all the positive reviews of this very weak film.
