The Witcher: Out of the Fire, Into the Frying Pan (2023)
In the interests of balance...
Most people's review here is poor because this episode takes time for introspection and Ciri's journey of self discovery, instead of "Blam" "slash"! "POW"! Personally I think many people have the attention span of kittens these days, and if asked to spend a little time actually thinking about something, have a tantrum. I liked it: It's thoughtfully done, beautifully shot, (as always), and I feel it is a piece of the story that is valuable to learn. Maybe there's is a little padding, maybe it's not all action, (there is some though), but if the whole series was all one level then that would be dull.
Cosmos (2019)
A very British first contact
This was such a nice thing to find! Really well shot and framed, well cast with lovely subtle character performances and well paced for its long run time- I was thoroughly engaged from the first five minutes. There are some teeny bits of clunky dialogue maybe but the actors make up for that with fluid believable performances. Don't expect any crazy vfx or over dramatic scenes, this is Britain! Do expect a nicely paced gentle character driven piece that manages to create the sense of awe that such an event would instil. If there was a teeny niggle I'd say that the score was trying to upstage the film in places- especially towards the end but overall thoroughly enjoyable. And this was a no budget film! There's talent!
