one of the best

Rachel Weisz is really good, so good, that in fact you should say : they're both great . She managed to split into two seperate worlds : the world of nihilistic joy and the world of silent dispair of perfection. Both worlds hate themselves , both these world love to be together. To look into the eyes of the other, of your greatest enemy - to look into the mirror. Additionally, this series is a deconstruction of American dream, of the bravery of West, of overproduction of Life , which always leads to deification of Death.

This film isn't about crazy twins, this film is about all of us - like Stevenson wrote - "We are not truly one, we are truly two" - always running behind our dreams, always seperate from our core, always looking, waiting, in vain....

The Farm (I) (2018)

who is under the mask ?
2 January 2021
Anubis with head of Jackal. Thot with that of Ibis, the king of desert. Bastet the cat, source of fertility. Horus, the Falcon, reborn from pieces. In Egypt when they saw Gods, they saw Animals. Why? Because they felt humans to be unholy. Wicked. Unworthy of trust. Shame on those who pray to themselves. Like the main characters of our movie, the modern pair from California, so full of vain talking about their shapeless future. That's where the mask begins. Under persona you can get rid of your filth and become free. You can see it in the church on the farm in the film. There is only few seconds glimpse on the painting behind the altar, but you can see there the sihouettes of people with animal heads and the inscription : Forbid them not. Exactly, what can you deny to Gods ? And the man deserves his vile fate from the beginning to the very end of time. Without explanation, he suffers in silence. So, who is under the mask ? No one.

Ghost Stories (I) (2017)

Waste of time

This film is a misunderstanding. It's pretentious and at the same time incoherent. The thrill is thwarted by the bursts of humor which what's worse seems unintentional. You got the impression that the director couldn't control his own film, that lack of vision deprived the film from structural order and meaning. I strongly advise against watching this film. Better stay at home and turn on tv classic like Shining - it's better to see it for the 10th time than watch Ghost Stories.

Great film
28 November 2016
Nocturnal animals hunt for forgiveness... This is a really great film. Firstly, visual side of the movie is just marvellous - the colours are full and intense in contrast to the hollowness of the souls and nakedness of the hearts of the main characters. The music is hard to describe because it's ideally synchronized with the drama - you can't extract the pain from the scream which manifests it or tears from the sorrow they express... Finally, the plot develops itself on 3 different dimensions simultaneously - all three dimensions are dark and desolated.. forgotten lands where human beasts prey on silence of their victims. The acting is perfect - the roles aren't just played, there is no falsehood or afectation in them. You feel the truth of every movement, gesture and word - the only lie you discover is that you watch only a film as an neutral observer, because in fact you're an active participant.. you're also guilty of the love you've lost... I can heartily recommend this film to everyone who's looking for the real art - that which doesn't teases the senses or satisfy moods but the real art which sacrifices happiness or success and fights to reveal the deep.

delightful

imagine the music of bullets in the desolate plains of Wyoming... the bloody smell of despair and bitter taste of hopelessness. I really don't understand the critics of this film. It is Tarantino's classic. too much violence ? really, cause this is the trademark of his films. The violence has to be final, irrevocably omnipresent and nonlinear. It is the same as in Pulp Fiction, there are only 2 squads of us : butchers and the victims. And even in Pulp Fiction there is no way to go beyond the Violence - except the spiritual Way which is only postulated - the miracle is required to change the Way of the World. This film is different - it is more real - as in Inglourious Bastards - the circle of Violence is closed. you can't escape from it. The innocent die and are forgotten. The butchers kill the innocent and than kill themselves in the rage of cruelty. I really liked this film - all characters are rotten and spoiled. All carry the burden of American history - of American North - South War. All are guilty and all are punished by themselves - the only justice is the justice of apocalypse...

Beautiful scenery, great music and nihilism - can it be sth better ?

perfect. just perfect.

There aren't any flaws in this film. Shortly : a piece of art. It draws your attention from the very begging, from the first scenes and involves you entirely through the development of the plot to the drama of solution. This film is in many languages, including french and Arabic, but the main language you can hear in this film, in its original purity, is the language of human heart. You will see many beautiful landscapes in this film, but the most beautiful is the landscape of human soul, when it forgives. You will see many religions and traditions in this film, but the oldest tradition is the tradition of mercy, and the oldest religion is the religion of love. We were all born on the South (you will understand where this place is when you watch this film) and just don't remember about it. Just watch it.

subtle and poetic
18 January 2014
this film has only one flaw - its not long enough... its funny and brilliant, its dark and thrilling and its poetic at the same time. Whoever have watched any film by Trier won't be disappointed. Of course don't read previous reviews - this film is not about sex. Its about loneliness between sensations, about being alone among people who suffer from lack of attachment. Its about life that struggles with death by facing death , to the ultimate boundary of pleasure. Just watch it, listen to BACH music and observe the feast for eye and ear and a challenge for heart... Maybe my words seem exaggerated but i have finished watching this film just an hour ago and my impressions are strong. But i believe it will endure and i will take my feelings from this movie with me and carry them through my daydreams...

Riddick (2013)
2/10
a complete disaster
8 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I'm really amazed by such high ranking of this film. If it deserves at all for a name of a film, because film should have something called plot and should be played by people called actors. It starts like a fairy- tale and ends like the some low-budget commercial. It seems that Riddick was a king of some Necro-civilization, but he left his kingdom to find a planet called furya. Of course there is no explanation why. Who would ask at all ? He is betrayed by his guide and left on some planet which is similar to Texas, where he adopts a dog and trains it a while. He even managed to kill the main predator-species on this planet - a sort of an eel and scorpion in one (the effects are like on PC ten years ago). He leads this interesting hunter-trapper life, but unfortunately on this desert planet the clouds are gathering - the storm is coming. So he travels to find a kind of shed (where did it come from?), equipped with beacon and sends a signal into space to make someone come to him and get him a ship. Of course it takes only few hours and at least 2 ships arrive ! The one contain a group of marauders with Russian accent, the second a father of someone from the past of our hero (no explanation who he was and what is it about). The rest is typical (i will reveal that they kill the dog !!!) - but completely deprived of suspense and sens too. The ending is so stupid that i can't find the words for it. Just leave this absurd alone - because it is not a film but a series of moving pictures - even first horror in the history - without sound and color is better - watch Nosferatu of Murnau from 1922 instead of this nonsense.

it was fun
29 July 2013
i'm really surprised by the reactions to this film. it doesn't deserve so low ratings at all. the first fact : it is a farce so it has to uses exaggeration and hyperbole to express its meaning. farce includes humor but it is not a comedy, it has completely different techniques and ways to elicit desired attitude. if you can't understand that you won't be able to understand Monty Python gags for example, which consist in inducing us to think about cultural stereotypes and their impact on us by means of exaggeration. i personally don't find this film splendid, there are some weaker moments in it, but it's definitely better than many other productions of that type (for example Scary Movie 5). and few scenes are very close in its manner to Borat or Bruno. so i think that it's no accident that in this low budget film there is Adrien Brody, i suppose that he noticed and appreciated the script because of the reasons mentioned above. so if you like absurd and surrealistic humor i can recommend it to you without hesitation.

how could it get more than 5?!
16 March 2013
It was one of the worst horrors i've ever seen. it's interesting only first 30 seconds while the cast is presented. I've chosen this film because of Ethan Hawke, who till now has never disappointed me, but from this moment i have to add him to the list of actors who definitely decline. there is no action in this film, no thrill at all (despite some violence in the description of the crimes - but it takes about 5 minutes of 2 hours of boredom). the biggest terror, according to the creators of this "masterpiece", should be caused by the sudden appearance of pale children in the dark (in dirty clothes and with dirty hands) - wow I'm so scared, really - and i shouldn't forget about the man in a white mask, who appears from time to time at the edge of the screen - I'm terrified. the only thing that's really scary is the thought that the real money were spent on this failure - so i strongly recommend you to avoid this title and watch something more advanced intellectually for example Baywatch.
