Love Island (2015)
Ignore the Bad Reviews
I know what you are thinking. This guy is uneducated, or he is materialistic, or he is phony, or he is a troll, or he is objectifying women, or he is immature, or he is etc., etc., etc....
The truth is that this show exists because people are watching it. You can come here with your insecurities about your body, or your intellectual superiority complex, or your elitist opinion that every TV show and movie should be a literary masterpiece.
Art should be accepted in all its forms and should have diversity. Those of you who call for the show to be banned or canceled should be ashamed of yourselves. Art should not be censored in any way. In culinary arts, you can eat a filet mignon and you can stuff your face with a good old fashioned hamburger. In fashion, you can wear an elegant tuxedo or you can rock a nice thrashed pair of blue jeans.
I do not see where all the hate comes from. I can watch the Godfather one day and relax to enjoy Love Island the next day. I am a husband and a dad. I work very hard and there are days that I am physically and emotionally exhausted. There is nothing wrong with my wife and I sitting down with some iced coffees and our smart phones to semi-watch a brainless show that blatantly celebrates the beautiful bodies and stupid naiveté of our youthful years... to blow off some steam remembering when we did not have the responsibilities of being middle aged.
I love this show in all its simplicity, just as I love the artistic masterpieces on the other end of the spectrum. It is better to review the show and explain its tone and purpose than to badmouth it. Badmouthing the stupidity of the people on Love Island (or those who watch it) is the same as denying you were every young and stupid. Youth is youth, plain and simple.
The Baby (2022)
Babylicious
I hate cookie cutter formulaic movies and series. While I have only seen one episode, I was intrigued with how this story would unfold. The opening scene puts you on pins and needles. The tension around the main character's life is very realistic and relatable. It unfolds into a beautiful disaster and the simultaneous adornment of the baby's giggle makes it that much more disturbing. I look forward to seeing where this goes, but for now, this show seems well worth the watch.
Good Life (2021)
Phony movie
There is nothing Greek about this movie. The actors, the crew, the location. It was terrible and fake. Someone watched Big Fat Greek Wedding, went to film school, and thought "how can I get paid to make a movie about Greeks?"
Always Jane (2021)
Trash TV
I honestly did not care if Jane was trans or not. If this was about a biological female, it would be just as superficial and boring. It felt like the same quality of programming as 16 & Pregnant or any other formulaic MTV style garbage. I watched the first episode in its entirety but I can't imagine wasting my life watching 3 more episodes of this drivel. Hard pass.
Chef (2014)
Chef serves up a special dish called fun
For those of you out there who are sick of seeing the same old formulaic bull that is churned out on a regular basis, this light hearted comedy is the right recipe for a night of fun and laughs. Is it the greatest movie ever made? Is it an award winning epic film? Is it full of flashy cars and well-dressed characters? No, but here is what the movie does well (without any spoilers).
Chef is a mix of familiar faces coming together to provide a nice blend of light comedy and light drama. A man who is at a rocky point in his career, as well as every other part of his life, has finally reached a cross roads. How he faces these challenges, how the story unfolds and develops, and how perfectly the food and the music accompany the story are all part of the unique charm that is Chef.
I watched it with my wife and 12 year old son and it was perfect for a Sunday evening before the busy week starts. Enjoy!
