He's All That (2021)
Not as bad as some of the reviews claims.
Let's start with the basics: The acting isn't perfect but it's not that bad, it's even great at times. I've seen a lot of hate towards Addison Rae and her performance but honestly she's doing a solid job through most of the movie, with some weaker moments but what did you expect. The production is smooth as in the story actually makes sense which in and of itself is more than could be said about some movies in this realm and the quality is better than I expected. The writing is solid and more importantly, the dialog actually feels natural for most of the movie. Which, again, is more than can be said about other similar movies.
I never liked the original, always finding it too shallow and without any real depth. While this movie isn't the Mariana trench, it's at least a stream and not a puddle. The lead more so learns to embrace herself and falls in love with the guy for his personality and what he brings out in her rather than for the "makeovered" version she creates of him. (although, of course she finds the more put together, styled version more physically attractive, which isn't a weird thing. That's true for any and everyone. Humans prefer other humans who look put together, that's just how it is). Also, her qualms about her friends picking him for the bet isn't that he's ugly (as is supposed to be the case in the original) but rather because he is socially undesirable at school, constantly clashing with the popular kids, which will obviously get in the way of the popular vote for prom king.
All in all, it's not an amazing movie but it managed to do what the original did not but movies like this should i.e. Make me feel good and as such it's a good update for the original. Now, the original has NOT aged well at all and this one maybe won't do any better in that department but then again it's solid enough now that I can't be mad at it.
Snabba cash (2021)
So good!
It's not perfect. There's some flaws and it falls into some tropes but d*mn it's good! It's raw and blunt, the characters feel realistic and the story is tight, and constricting, bordering on claustrophobic. Also, the acting is some of the best I've seen from a swedish cast. (So glad swedish acting is finally stepping up it's game and leaving the theater-acting on the stage where it belongs!)
Would definitely recommend this show to anyone interested!
Hereditary (2018)
Kinda disappointing
I didn't have a chance to catch this in theater and I've been putting it off since because I wanted to give it my full attention. I've heard so many positive reviews and I thought it looked great from the first trailer but all I got was disappointment.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. I definitely don't feel like I wasted those 2+ hours. The acting was great, the story was engaging enough and it definitely tugged on my heartstrings at moments but it was so predictable.
First act was a good build-up. It got me engaged and interested. Second act was the best part of the entire movie and it made me think maybe this could become my new favorite movie. I also got the feeling that this might be that kinda horror that just sticks with me and gets me paranoid for a week afterwards(which I love) but then as the second act moved to a close and the third came in, I got bored. It became predictable. Some of the effects were great but it didn't hit the way it should've because I'd already called it. I found myself counting down to the "jump scares" (that weren't jump scares in the classic sense so kudos for that but still just as predictable) and just waiting for the end, which was very anticlimactic.
It's a solid movie but it definitely won't stick with me in any way, shape or form and that's a shame. A real shame.
Left Behind (2014)
I gave up!
This is my first ever review but i just really felt that it needed to be said. This movie is horrible, don't watch it. Ever. Don't even think about it. The acting is so bad at some points I even find myself laughing. The script is flat and the movie takes way too long to build up. Now I'm not a believer but I usually don't mind movies with a religious theme at least not as long as they're GOOD and actually brings something more but this movie did not. I'm not ashamed to say I actually got of the couch and the others, still hoping it might get better, were left behind(see what I did there, that's the only joke I can make from this movie, seriously). I officially gave up, have never done that before, I can usually find something that is at least a little bit interesting to keep me through even the worst of movies, may it be a characters personality or just a really good looking actor but this movie didn't even bring that, not that there weren't some people I wouldn't mind looking at for a bit more but I just couldn't take it anymore. The best part about the movie is that I didn't pay for it.(Thank God for rental(yes i did manage a second, awful joke, I'm gonna stop I promise)). Already a few minutes in I could see the cliché ending, no twists, no turns and as the world went wild when people disappeared I realized I was right and just gave up.
So please, no matter your reason to consider this movie, put it back! Put it back in whatever awful little box you found it in and let it be left behind(sorry). Leave it, forget it and don't ever go back to it. Not even if you're Christian. I'm serious, it's not worth it.
