hunter schafer IS talent
29 January 2021
I feel like this episode with jules perspective and stuff were actually so releasing. we never really understood jules and we even hesitated about if she loved rue or not. so making a whole episode on her perspective gave not only the character but the show some sort of realism and beauty that i didnt think any other character different than rue and nate could give. and specially not a character like jules who was actually like this sort of magical piece of the show and gave that vibe of fantasy and glittery that fulfilled the dark and twisted rue and her addiction. i am genuinely in love with hunter schafer in every single way. the TALENT of her is unmeasurable. im also really fond of sam levinson's job.

good writing, awful development
2 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My favorite character has always been callie. she was written since the beginning as this strong and powerful latin woman who becomes a mom in difficult circumstances and a heroine whenever she needs to. this episode/this season absolutely destroyed such a beloved character's evolution and arc, and considering this was her last season, it was even worse. callie would never let someone ask those questions about arizona's motherhood or capability. good episode, good writing, fantastic acting, terrible choice.

well...

Not david e kelley's best work. not nicole kidman's best work. not donald sutherland's best work. yet, really entertaining. slow at times, too fast and unlikely at times. but the directing is fantastic and the photography is lovely. i recommend reading the book cause it is quite the same experience.

an interesting MOVIE
30 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Okay.... that was definetely expected. i've been trying to convince myself the show was going to be great and full of final cliffhangers but it turned out being nothing more than a poorly adapted teleplay.

this could have been avoided if David E Kelley had been wiser and less lazy to alter the ending. for a book, this is a great finale and very fair. but, i thought kelley knew better than making it all psychological without showing any signs of it being psychological thriller for FOUR PREVIOUS EPISODES (i must say episode two was pretty psych). i kind of forgot kelley never shows the "what happened next" sequence at the end of his shows but here was fairly expected to know what the hell happened to grace, henry and even the grandfather. lily rabe's character was totally unnecessary. edgar ramirez character was unnecessary. elena's husband was irrelevant to the story. even the freaking LAWYER had nothing to do with the story. or the hammer. this is a rare mistake for a writer like kelley to do. but it is too simple to understand that making a psychological thriller about narcicism and a "who did it" mystery with lots of doubtful unnecessary characters don't fit together. for example: sharp objects did it fantastically. the writers knew the ending was about munchausen syndrom and a major cliffhanger so they didn't stick the attention to the whole pack of characters having their assumptions about who killed the little girls. they put their attention on amy adams and her relationship with her mother instead and the little sister (the actual killer) being a completely mystery to us. so this show should have actually centered on grace and jonathan's relationship and/or jonathan should have been the starring and not grace. but well, it was not a bad show at the end of the day. but it was not a good one either. about the acting, hugh grant did it great. the best of the cast (another reason to make him the starring instead of kidman's character). nicole kidman finally stopped whispering and entered the room as the actress we once saw on the hours or the others (or big little lies). lily rabe, edgar ramirez and donald sutherland were absolutely ROBBED. these roles were too small for them. instead, noah jupe was fantastic and the lawyer outstanding. fantastic directing and photography. stunning production design. poor writing. really hope they don't nominate this for outstanding writing for a limited series and i'm not sure if i wanna see it competing for the limited series category at the emmys. but hugh grant is a big yes. as is the lawyer.

what is going on, kelley?
30 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I waited to binge-watch the last two episodes so that i don't get easily disappointed with a poor finale. where do i start? the strong point of this show is cinematography. it has a very classic and higher class point of view of the things, shown in every risky shot they make. i like to believe this episode was the beginning of the show and not the last four, that now i realize weren't really necessary. the acting is strong and wild. nicole kidman is still the lowest point for me, unfairly. this role doesn't live up to her incredible acting range and i still believe they didn't look at the great opportunity of having her portraying Elena and Elena's actress portraying Grace. anyway, hugh grant has really given us an emmy-deserving performance of a very doubtful character. also the kid, noah jupe is a great newcomer and i believe he is going to appear way more on tv from this show on. the lawyer was extremely good this episode as well. i expected more from lily rabe and sutherland but apparently, the writing is really off the leak of these actors. i almost forgot, HOW DARE YOU WASTING SUCH AN AMAZING ACTOR LIKE EDGAR RAMIREZ FOR SEVEN LINES ON EACH EPISODE? talking bout the writers, i am disappointed i must say. david e kelley is one of the most wonderful tv writers i have ever seen and yet this show was not the case. i understand this is an adaptation from a novel book but it never stops feeling like it. i feel more like i'm reading a very exciting book rather than an adapted tv show. and even though the production design and the cinematography are STUNNING, doesn't change the appearance of a novel book, just filmed. i expected the court scenes to be like big little lies with witty dialogue and strong performances, taking the main characters to their wits end. yet i find a prosecutor saying the words "and hitting her" over six times as an introduction to the jury. i am quite disappointed, i must say. but not enough to label it as a bad show. its a great miniseries, just not a david e kelley's miniseries, nor is it nicole kidman's best work.

so far the best episode
16 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, i have mixed feelings with the show right now. i knew the lawyer was going to be a bomb for the show since i first saw her but i still do not buy this is going to be an easy answer. i feel like the two last episodes are going to have to be fully charged to compensate the slow path the show has chosen for the first FOUR episodes. my suspects are on sutherland's character but as i said before, i don't think this is as easy as a "he did it. jail. lets all go home". david e kelley has managed to make unexpected plot twists that change the whole thing into another one. im hoping it takes the path that Sharp Objects took at the end and drop a big ending cliffhanger. or at least to be as round and fair as Little Fires Everywhere's ending was. the performances are still great. donald sutherland has entered the room and he's hungry for some emmy nominations. hugh grant really does well too, specially at the tv scene. and i'm hoping they consider lily rabe for an emmy nomination even though this is not her best work at all. also, noah jupe does really good and the other kid who plays the victim's son miguel. also a point for the cinematography and directing that managed to take more risky shots and scenarios (like the snow scene). now, about nicole kidman. i know she's a great actress and her performance is much more believable than if any other actress would have played this character. but in a kidman-range parameter, i would say this is (so far) a poor character for her to portray and subsequentially, not her best performance at all. i feel like david e. kelly loved her work in big little lies and gave her a very similar character with a different hairstyle and a way less interesting storyline. she can do better but most importantly, she can be offered better. i would've loved if the roles were inverted and kidman played rabe's character and viceversa. to sum up, a great episode but i want to see way more than that in the last few episodes remaining. i want more action. more david e kelley. more nicole kidman.

rare
10 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I think it starts way too rushed and with extremely short scenes to a point that makes everything a bit confusing. most certainly the weakest episode so far, probably because it lacks the thriller that both previous episodes had. we know that kelley is a fantastic writer but i think he's copying his own work on this one. kidman's character is once again doing everything on her power to be able to defend her husband somehow, who has clearly messed up everything. though, the production design is still overwhelmingly good and the acting is spot on. specially, donald suetherland's this episode.

stunning Nicole Kidman

David E Kelly is a wonderful writer and I've known this since Big Little Lies. But the DIRECTING and the ACTING are fantastic in this episode. I just can't say more than that. It's unexpected and unpredictable. The scenes with shocking factor are stunningly well-made. I outstand Lily Rabe and Hugh Grant as well. I think this is a big Emmy-contender show.

not for everyone
28 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What i've noticed with this show, even after the emmy season, is that it's not made for everyone. neither are steve carrell's and mark duplass' performances. talking personally, i related the whole constantly-shouting thing to argentinian tv (my natal country) but i definetely didn't enjoy it as much as i enjoyed the last episodes in which we could only get annoyed if we couldn't stand aniston's brilliant performance as a woman out of her wits or carrell's cringeworthy the-office-like crisis scenes full of tears and laughters out of nowhere. but this episode was just too much. too much anger and fuss all over the place making the environment go hard to watch. even kind of boring due to its monochromatic tension. though, i do believe jennifer aniston and reese witherspoon outshine as their characters. it's the first time i see reese taking the risk of not playing an upper class blonde with her own privileged-person-issues. i also adore mark duplass and billy crudup in their respective roles. and about steve carrell, as i said before, is not for everyone. i can mention carrell, jim carrey, adam sandler and more actors that mean well and i'm sure they got something worth the fuss but personally, i don't sympathize. also, the writing was so accurate, specially during the metoo conversation between two accused men, that was witty and risky for the writers. to sum up, i don't think this was a bad episode, but it just didn't catch me. let's see what the next episodes do to me. 6/10

Getting the Jean Marc-Vallée vibes
26 October 2020
Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects writer signs again with HBO into this mysterious and well-directed thriller. With the witty and dark cracking jokes, characteristic from Marc-Vallée and of course the particular taste in a perfect casting.

Gotta admit that I have an unfair prejudice of how done I am with Nicole Kidman playing the nicest of them all in a town full of vultures (as I am full of Reese Witherspoon's upper class blonde Karen mom performance in every show) but I always take it back when I start watching the show. Kidman gives me chills with every single thing she does. Also, Hugh Grant fits perfectly into the role and I'm looking forward to seeing what the hell happened to his character. Lily Rabe is, as always, outshining in a very different role from what I'm used to see her portraying.

An appealing opening for what it seems to be an enjoyable, emmy-contender, powerful HBO's and Jean Marc Vallée's miniseries. Let's see if it can get as good as Sharp Objects and Big Little Lies.

Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow

Warning: Spoilers
Like, yeah, the plot and the situation of this episode has been quite repetitive throughout these seasons. Rachel and Ross not being able to move on from each other and holding grudges but I just gotta say Aniston stole this episode. Her portrayal was just hilarious and amusing to watch. Also, Phoebe eating meat again was sooo funny. Gotta say, I laughed hard. Emmy for each one of the actresses for stealing this whole season. And I really hope Ross doesn't end up being this unbearable until the finale.
