Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)
Cheeky & delightful
Cheeky and delightful! Grew up on the original wizard of oz and this is a satisfying extension.
Storm Boy (2019)
Beautiful film and story
Watched with my 9 year old son. Important lesson too about loss resulting in greater meaning and having an impact for good. Visually lovely. Feel good story without being cliche. Lost of good life lessons. Actors were wonderful.
Shirley (2020)
Complex, like a woman
Giving this a 10 to balance out the 3 star review from the man who said it was "all over the place," and clearly couldn't keep up. Nuanced and psychically titillating. Beautifully shot, fiercely performed. The film is largely a social commentary on male privilege, and the metaphorical and actual cages women are sentenced to by society. Like any great story, much is shown and not told; worth watching twice. I'd revel in reading the book in a heartbeat.
Stories We Tell (2012)
Unexpected, delightful... all the feels.
Complexly woven, beautifully told, visually engaging... would have enjoyed the audio version just as well, but greatly enjoyed the visual aspect to the story. Cried and laughed.
Tell Me Who I Am (2019)
Oscar worthy
Stumbled across this as I was looking for something I could listen to whole folding laundry. Was looking for something interesting, not obnoxious, intelligent at a minimum... Finished the film saying Oscar, Best Documentary Feature. Brilliantly directed and produced. Authentic and raw. Cannot overstate how incredible this film was. Must see.
