How do we watch this?
11 October 2017
Marisela Gonzales is known for her role as Angela in Dangerous Minds (Emilio Ramirez's girlfriend), we've waited forever for her to feature in something else.... and now this short film seems unobtainable. Not on Netflix either. Where can we see it? Thankyou.....................................

Dated now, but amazing dancing
24 May 2014
Im in mixed minds. When I was 16 (Im now 37!) I adored this film, mainly for the dancing by unknown dancers. They weren't famous yet they were brilliant. Also the whole Latina/Latino thing which Im slightly obsessed with, Hispanic culture hasn't come to the UK so it all seems exotic to me. Now I watch it, and Im more critical... the kids seem way too old - younger people should have been cast. The story line isn't great, nor the script writing. Its sad that as we mature we're naturally so critical of everything instead of enjoying it. Id like to see this remade but with a sharper script, better actors but still the same sort of dancing, I'd love to know who taught them.

Don't watch if you don't like blood
24 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Dragged husband along to see this, I spent 50% of the film with my hands over my eyes. He loved it and bought the DVD. Fantastic mma, amazing choreography and directorship. Real eye opener because of the STORY behind this not just the blood and guts. I don't know anything about the actors, I might google them out of interest - are they from gritty backgrounds or did they get acting lessons at a good school? Etc. This film may be fiction, but this echoes truth for many families over there. Just the end got to me more than anything, where he has the chance to walk out of the block but he turns back and walks inside the gates as they're closing.... makes me shiver.

spot on, almost

Apart from the prostitute girl not being a very good actress and sounding scripted, I do love this film. AT LAST someone has made a film about something that the tourists don't see; far fetched things that really do happen. The immigration men don't really act as bad as that (human rights etc). But we need more of these gritty true life films, to open everyones eyes. People vanish without a trace, London is a big magnet that draws people in, especially people who were lost in the first place. I've also heard that one of the film makers is Romany gypsy, Im very pleased about this because being Romany myself I know its hard to get a chance.

Interesting

I love this film, because its so different. Why are people afraid of that? Its a fly on the wall snippet of a family's life. It never claimed to be anything else. I do wonder what the kids are doing now, are they married? Still in Ringsend? Put most other kids in front of a camera and they wont be like Winnie, realise it or not she would make a good actress. I didn't know how much was scripted/acted and what was genuine, but it doesn't matter. I heard this film won an award and the family were taken to view it in Italy, I imagine they were pretty much abandoned after that. Well I could watch it over and over again, we don't have to agree with their life/choices but its good to see how other people live!

Dance Academy (1988)

Acting may not be brilliant but the dancing is.
7 June 2005
Actually, this is good viewing. The script goes a bit off the rails, and the acting isn't brilliant (although there are a couple of good actors in it), but its primarily a dance film, and anyone who loves dance should see this. The dance talent is 10 out of 10, and some of the guys are gorgeous!! On the dancing side of things, a lot of work has been put into this film by the dancers themselves. Just a shame they haven't been more successful. If you've seen Salsa or Lambada and thought it was your sort of thing, then this film is worth watching. Not many of the cast are household names (well, practically none if I'm honest!!) but they deserve more recognition; Steve La Chance was impressive. The only totally wooden actress in my opinion was the middle aged headmistress of the school, with the curly hair. So mundane, I cant even remember her real name. God knows what casting were thinking of; she lets the whole film down.

Gorgeous, tough cookie actors & actresses, some unknown.
24 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Michelle Pfeiffer shows how adaptable she is, by playing teacher to problem teenagers Louann Johnson. But I was most impressed by the performance of Marisela Gonzales, who plays the gorgeous Angela. An entirely unknown actress, I don't believe Marisela has had any acting work since Dangerous Minds, which is surprising, as she excelled in her role. I don't get bored of watching this film over and over again, its something a little bit different for America. The casting crew chose kids of different cultures, and gave them a chance. They weren't to be disappointed. I admit I (nearly!) cried when Emilio was killed; this film is both exciting and touching.
