Hrútar (2015)
Sheep, snow and beards
This is a lovely film, deadpan funny, well shot, quite moving and a great ending (which I choose to interpret as a hopeful ending). The film is shot a bit like a western, with great music and some subtle but impressive performances. Slow, but it's about sheep so what do you expect.
Dýrið (2021)
Weird....creepy.....pretty weird
It's good in the sense of the suspense, the cast is good, filmography great...but the whole human-lamb hybrid needed a little bit of context...as is it says literally nothing about the reason it's born, the creepy man-sheep with a gun etc ..it's a good horror in some ways...an acquired taste this one.
WandaVision (2021)
Mixed, clever but not always in a good way
I hated the first few episodes, then it all came together and became really good, al,OST brilliant. Then episode 8 and the Agatha character turns up...dire, like some crappy 90,s teenage witch comedy appears...jarring ...has some redemptive features but for me, doesn't fit well with the rest of the marvel universe. Trying to be a little too clever for its own good.
Aquarela (2018)
It's good, but not that good
It's an impressive documentary, the first 30 minutes in particular is great however i feel it is so loose and lacking in narrative that the last 30 minutes I wasn't that bothered...its a cinematic feat though and deserves credit for the cinematography alone
1917 (2019)
One of, if not the best film depicting WW1
A tremendous feat of film-making, which makes you feel as if you are alongside the main characters in this brilliant film. Filmed in one continuous shot it leads to many surprises and an intense feeling throughout the entire film. The story is simple but very effective at showing the horror of WW1 and what it did to these brave young men. Everyone should see this film.
The Walking Dead: A New Beginning (2018)
Intriguing start....
Good start to the season, the scenes in the museum are great and the suspense and intrigue ranked up very quickly. Gregory continues to a pantomime weasel, Rick and the gang continue to be awesome and frustrating in equal measure. Lots of places this series could go from here....what a great series
The Walking Dead: Wrath (2018)
You made it real...
I am a little surprised at the mixed reviews for this episode, and season 8 in general, as I think this season has everything. It is complex, exciting, explosive and satisfying. It can't always be about zombies, although there are plenty of zombies in it. This final episode moves us on to a different place, with a sad and uplifting finale. I can see why people were not keen on how Neegan got his at the end, but for me this is the only way it could end and our heroes have a chance of something better, and more seasons of great stories. As Morgan says 'the only thing worth a dam is people'. Great show, brilliant.
