Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
More heart than the whole last phase
I see some 1/10s. It's not that bad.
The movie is rated PG-13.
I agree I wouldn't let a 5-10 year old watch this. But do some research, it took me two seconds to find out what's in this movie.
We literally have information at our finger tips.
I also saw a bad soundtrack review. The music is great once again.
This is not a perfect movie and it suffers from mcu-ness.
However the good parts shine so well.
All the characters are given ample screen time and move the narrative forward. I feel Drax was the most underused, but he had some heartfelt moments too.
This movie is a reminder that the directors love for a project can really shine through.
I couldn't help but think I'm excited to see what Gunn does with the DCEU (or dcu, or whatever they are calling it)
Legend for mcu-ness:
Some of the gci was not great
Cheesy out of place jokes
Ruined scenes for jokes
Cookie cutter bad guys (although this one was almost really good - the whole concept around him was good)
Overall this is a good movie. It's pretty violent, a little nasty at times, and some scenes involving animals might be hard to watch.
Oh and no star lord helmet :( I don't know why I wanted to see it.
Amsterdam (2022)
This is a good movie
I didn't want to watch it, but I did and I was surprised how good it was.
It does fall apart a bit in the third act. Which is unfortunate. There's a pacing issue in the third act. But it's still interesting and fun.
The first two acts are phenomenal!
Christian bale is awesome. And so is the rest of the cast. There's some good laughs, and bale brings the emotion even with regards to some 2 dimensional characters.
Despite its flaws it's a great flick for an evening in watching a movie.
Pretty tame. There's a little gore and mild language.
If you're a graham cracker of a man, you'll enjoy Amsterdam.
The Batman (2022)
I feel torn
There's a lot to say.
First off my wife hated the movie and the score.
The movie doesn't dig into origins too much.
But it heavily relies on the viewer knowing Batman's origin and his pain.
If you read the more popular comics and graphic novels, you can see there is a lot they pulled from them... in a good way. I think all that landed really well.
The movie is beautiful. So many awesome shots.
It's just a little too slow for my liking.
Bruce's narrating really worked for me for the feel and pacing.
One thing I didn't agree with was I didn't feel they built Gotham as a believable world, but they had all these more "realistic" characters.(as much as one can with a man dressed up as a bat)
I don't want to compare this to other Batman movies. But I will say Nolan's world building was much more robust, leaving you invested.
I thought everyone did great with their parts. Colin Farrell really shined for me.
The reason I'm torn is I think this movie is well made, but I didn't feel invested in Gotham. Which is kind of the whole point.
To explain I feel like every scene that happened was contained in that scene. Like anything happening outside what you are seeing is not relevant.
The character development was good.
Some scenes just were so incredible. Car chase, most of the last act was just incredible.
This is a good movie. But it is boring at times. But also so incredible to watch.
I think this movie will age very well.
I would like to watch it again.
Also just a side note, the mystery parts were almost good.
But someone else wrote a review that I thought nailed the feeling, Batman was reactive in his clues. Never quite figuring it out. On purpose or not, it cause the conclusion to fall flat a bit.
That's my rant.
The Green Knight (2021)
Provokes Thought for Sure
Only the elite will get this film. Lol
Some have said authors of negative reviews should stick to popcorn flicks.
That is a nice compliment to call us authors.
They say this movie provokes thought... well ain't that right you need to use all your thoughts to try and figure out the message they are trying to portray in this film.
The screen play is a jumbled mess. The tone is ever changing.
It is beautifully filmed and has some nice shots.
Overall you should watch it. Just know how crap it is, and you might enjoy it more!
No expectations is the way to go.
Jupiter's Legacy (2021)
Overall it's a decent show, you should check it out
I'll try to be spoiler free
Some characters are annoying
Sometimes the acting is bad
Sometimes the dialogue is not great
But its an interesting slow burn story
It's a fun time
It's a little predictable in a bad way, but there's some good development.
I haven't read the comics. So I knew nothing going in.
Jupiter's Legacy: What's the Use? (2021)
More goodness. Too much Chloe
This is more Sheldon focused. Get some cool tidbits for the story. The flashbacks are still the best.
I read some people complaining, but I think its the strongest part of the series.
Chloe is so unlikable not sure if it's on purpose or we are suppose to actually feel anything for her. It's confusing.
Jupiter's Legacy: All the Devils Are Here (2021)
Building and burning
This series took a turn at episode 3, a good one. This episode was good.
Chloe is still the worst. I hope they dig into her pains, but she's pretty annoying. Some depth or context would help, but her superhero dad not being there for here and she didn't ask to be born crap is really disengaging.
Otherwise great slow burn in the story.
Jupiter's Legacy: Painting the Clouds with Sunshine (2021)
This episode was the best of the 3 so far
Interesting character development. Intriguing story. The flashback stuff is the best part. Very cool anti hero story as well. ( I'm assuming, I don't know what people's motives are, but he seems to have lived by the same code)
Jupiter's Legacy: Paper and Stone (2021)
It's interesting
I haven't read the source material. Everything is pretty interesting. Again, the kids are just annoying. Maybe I find it hard to empathize with them.
Chloe is the worst character , then Bradon. The flashback stuff is the best part.
People getting triggered from words just isn't very gripping. Maybe they are building towards something, but if not it's pretty ironic.
Jupiter's Legacy: By Dawn's Early Light (2021)
I don't mind the cheese
This show feels like network TV trying to be edgy. My biggest gripe is the attitudes of the characters specifically the kids. This is just my opinion, but man these needy kids being so entitled. It's just a boring and lame scenario. 😴
This kind of writing almost ruined superman and Lois as well.
The rest is pretty fun, I'd like to keep watching.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Truth (2021)
Pretty, pretty, pretty good
Best episode yet. Hopefully the last episode can pull this out of the gutter.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: The Whole World Is Watching (2021)
Better episode...
It's OK. Same old. Kinda boring. Less boring than the last episode.
Edit* the episodes are so forgettable. The first min was good showing bucky in wakanda 10/10 for that short scene. But the rest is poorly written. It's not bad it's just not good. The dialog really kills the mood.
The production was a 10/10 until I saw winter soldier running. I had to rewind it 5 times to make sure it wasn't my stream acting up.
Invincible (2021)
Never read the comics, but a Kirkman fan.
This show is great. Honestly I forget it's animated.
Totally sucks you in.
The Devil All the Time (2020)
Great Film if you like the style
This is worth the watch. Movies like there will be blood, and no country for old men. Slow, steady enticing.
I could be wrong but I'd rate this movie a 9 without the narrator. I'd love to watch it without. But still very good.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Power Broker (2021)
Gimmicky, but more importantly unbearable
I really wanted to like this show. 2 very cool characters. This probably would land better if they made it more like an 80's buddy cop film.
First 2 episodes were ok. But this one is a sad departure.
Cheese, choppy and boring. I'm watching just because I've watched everything else.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
A load of fun and adventure
I really thought I was gonna hate this film. From bad press to terrible trailer, and all the production problems. But I have to give it some love. This was a good adventure film, with tasteful nods, good cast and it was fun. I would really rate it a 8/10 but I think this film has got so much hate out there because of social politics. I know not everyone will love it, but nothing was too over the top. Some weak moments , but overall I left feeling excited and smiling. It's ok for kids too. (Some people were worried about that)
