Dong jing gong lüe (2000)
Tokyo raiders and the Jackie Chan effect!
I enjoyed the movie and you can see the influence by Jackie Chan and the not so serious fighting scenes.I said he had an influence on the film, not make the film. Most people out there who gave it a so so rating want to see the same things over and over again. In most of the fighting scenes the stars seem to toy with the villains even though their life is at risk.In which is a Jackie Chan trademark. When Stephen Seagal has continually made movies under the CIA identity,no one makes the comment,"this is a typical Hollywood or hong kong movie".The most influential movies generally come out of Hollywood or hong kong.I believe Hollywood and hong kong put out movies that generally caters to teenage boys, such as intense gun battles with explosions included.Thats why Hollywood is making all the marvel comics into movies. The point that I'm making is Tokyo Raiders is a mediocre film to some, and when they look at the DVD cover and they see asians, martial arts is the first thought, not the relation between the people.
Sky High (2002)
A great film!
I believe Kitamura is a genius, but most people in this forum do not understand what he was trying to accomplish. The story lines in(Sky high,Versus) are basically about death and the many beliefs that are out there, about the subject. In Versus(the resurrection is mentioned)in Sky High(reincarnation, and your belief determines how you will end up in the after life).Kitamura's ability to take the right music with the right scene is staggering. The man is a true talent. Some of the comments I have read in this forum is just amazing. One person says the sword play was really weak.Once again you have someone that cannot follow a story.Ordinary people who were just about to marry and has her heart ripped out by a rich man who thought money could buy everything until his wife meet with some unfortunate accident. The point is if you have never picked up a sword how well do you think your sword play would be?Sky High is truly a great movie!
What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? (2004)
Metaphysics
I enjoyed the movie and I understand what they were trying to do.Quantum paradox is the most accepted explanation in science today. In the past it was a judeo-Christian explanation and in the future a science-spiritual explanation. The point they were trying to make is here is when you try to pin down matter it cant be done. They keep running into infinities, so you need more than a physical explanation. A Metaphysical one!If you take a look on the back of the DVD cover it mentions the word metaphysic. The only disappointment with the film is how moral relativism keeps on creeping into the picture as if this is some new progressive way of thinking.Buckminster Fuller was one of many who explored this explanation.I don't agree with everything in the movie, but I do understand what it was about. Many in this forum think the movie is about quantum physics, but the point they were trying to make is, even quantum physics is not enough to explain,How ,What, When,Why and Where. They ask the one physicist about particles popping in and out of existence and he said he can give two reasons he could think of....When you think you have the answer for one question, here comes more unanswered questions!
Vlad (2003)
enjoyable!
I just laugh when you have people who want to see the same old vampire movie.Familiarity seems to be the reason, for if its good .The avoidance of something new or different for example:Put a bunch of people in a room and show them the movie vlad then show them hellboy. When you play vlad people will start to exit the room because there expectation is that of what they have seen in the past. Then play hellboy and you will have very little exiting the room because it fills the expectations of the past.Vlad, the movie explains the legend of Dracula and how it was started. But see, that is real information, versus a dark figure who bites the neck of everyone in its path, which one do you think will win out?Vlad is good movie and deserved more attention that it received.
Versus (2000)
Unique concepts not wanted.
I find it very strange that many of the viewers who watch foreign movies find it very difficult to understand that Japanese movie has its own taste and effects.Don't expect Japan to do Hollywood movies.Versus, is a Japanese film in which contains Japanese culture. In the 70s the Japanese and even still now the Japanese are known for their anime and samurai films. The Chinese are trying too hard to be like Hollywood,Jackie Chan is an example of that.Japanese movies has a far greater impact than Chinese movies do.Ask anyone what was Jet Li's best movie, "Fist of Legend" of course.Bruce Lee's Chinese Connection is the movie that Americans "really" noticed Bruce Lee.Versus to me was a movie that continues the Japanese legacy of samurai swordplay and martial arts. The continuation of the success of the ninja turtles, ultra man, power rangers,Gobots, etc.I laugh at some of the comments I have read here on this forum are obsured and very narrow minded.
Samouraïs (2002)
Great story!
The film is very different, many of the films that are given bad ratings by many of the fewers are generally rated bad because of the inability to follow a movie. Many watch just to see the fight scenes as if in real life conflicts don't generally start by things people say that is considered offensive."Lets just fight for no cause or reason".The story is well explained but you have those out there that cannot follow the film because hey,"I have to think".Ask anyone the question, why was the computer programmer of the video game killed in the beginning?"Because he knew Kung fu and Karate.Ha! Spiderman not the greatest movie of the year the hulk was OK, not anything unique. The film is very different but didn't receive the attention it deserved. The best films out there goes with- out attention.I know people who watched water world twice in one day but put something out there different unique. My point is here most people want to see the same things over and over.I'm even surprised the matrix was a big hit.
