The Accursed (2021)
Why?
Scariest bit was the last two seconds of the movie. Everything else seemed like someone came up with a loose plot, threw a bunch of actors in there, and said "figure it out."
Come True (2020)
Outstanding
Sorry, the title of my review is absolutely misleading and 100% not at all what the content of the review will contain; much like the movie about a teenage girl who has odd nightmares but then isn't what the movie is about at all you've been duped. I didn't figure a movie based off a creepypasta meme would be the worst movie I've watched since the pandemic started but, here we are. An astonishing waste of time and effort after an admittedly interesting beginning that stumbles through odd relationships, nonsense twists, disposable and forgettable characters, and a "twist" ending that screams "I don't care you watched this whole thing, you get nothing and will like it."
Wow. Just. Wow.
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (2020)
I think I figured it out.
Ok. All ten episodes watched and I think I finally understand the message. The message was: We had a decent police thriller, panicked when no one was interested, threw in supernatural stuff, forgot all about the supernatural stuff, and here's our giant pile of "thank god we could attach the name Penny Dreadful to it." That's it. That's the show.
Deliver Us from Evil (2014)
Which is it?
The entire time I watched this movie I couldn't help but feel like the writer couldn't decide if he wanted to make a horror movie or a buddy cop movie and settled for both knowing either or would have been poor. Jumping between solid police work and then searching for answers to unravel a mystery involving demons plaguing marines made the whole experience feel disjointed and not super well thought out. An interesting story without a doubt and well acted by all involved just in the end let down by a seemingly directionless idea of what the movie was actually supposed to be genre-wise.
The Final Wish (2018)
Whiff.
Hard to enjoy a movie with an interesting premise when you figure out about half an hour in what the demonic presence is and what it wants. First disturbing bit occurs and the rest is pretty much predictable and more of "oh no, that sucks" than "holy crap! That's terrifying!". If you have an hour and a half to burn on some odd knock off of a monkey's paw wish horror movie then it's not the worst thing in the world.
Dybbuk Box: The Story of Chris Chambers (2019)
Not an absolute waste of time.
This "found footage" film plays out quickly and doesn't drag like other "real accounts" of events like this. Felt like Paranormal Activity if the person making it wasn't taking it seriously and thought "no one is going to believe this is real anyway" through out production and threw his hands up towards the end in frustration of having no idea where it's going. At an hour it's actual fun and worth the watch if this is the genre of movies and television you're into.
A Haunting on Dice Road: The Hell House (2016)
Very interesting.
I am having one hell of a time deciding if this was real or not. Sure the research seemed well done, sure the people that were interviewed were convincing enough as everyday people and not actors. Some of the footage is absolutely what you would see on other well established "ghost hunting" or "paranormal investigation" shows; but some of the footage is what you would see in fictitious found footage movie. It was amusing, and if all that occurred and all that was told is true it is truly unnerving. Would suggest based on the history of the house (or fiction they created) and for how amusing it is.
Alien Reign of Man (2017)
Just...wow.
I am genuinely upset that I wasted time on this movie. One Ray Harryhausen skeleton could have destroyed the alien that seemed to be CGI, stop motion animation, and someone in a suit having a seizure all in one. Uncorked just seems to show no effort in making decent movies and gets lucky here and there. This was not one of them.
