Reviews
Creamerie (2021)
It is a Dark Comedy, and a good one at that.
After reading some of the reviews here, I admit, I was a bit apprehensive about investing time on the show. I do not see it, that is, the justifications for the negative reviews. The show is science fiction with dark comedy all infused into the adventures of our characters. On these two things, the show definitely delivers. The acting and the story are phenomenal given the premise of the story. Of course, at times one desires different actions and outcome to spare our heroes on their journey, and sometimes we do not see a way out as their archenemy rises, but the resolutions are surprising and in line with the dark comedy aspects of the story. Our heroes do fall and rise from deep dark places, but we can see in the story avenues for redemption. I hope they have a continuation of the story with another season. Applause to the trio JJ Fong, brilliant, Ally Xue and Perlina Lau, and also thumbs up to Tandy Wright, you made your character so easy to dislike.
Ahsoka (2023)
An added story to the world of Star Wars
This show/story does not exists in a vacuum. I have been thoroughly impressed by the attention to detail in every episode. The series links previous stories like the Clone Wars, Rebels, Boba Fet, Mandalorian and etc... by closing gaps in the stories of the before and after these events took place in the Star Wars' world. They import characters as well as imagery, objects, myths, lore, deities and relationships existing in previous series and movies that, fortunately for me, could be further explored on YouTube presented by a community of committed students of Star Wars that bring these details to light. I am a fan of Rosario Dawson, and her portrayal of Ahsoka brings the character to life as probably few others could.
Wellmania (2023)
You do not have to love it to find value in the story.
On my wife's suggestion, I watched the show. Normally, in a show where the main character is so self destructive, e.g. "You Better Call Saul," I dislike the slow evolution into chaos, and, as another reviewer put it, "cringe moments." Saying that, there are some small redeeming qualities to the main character as she, very slowly, emerges from this vortex. Perhaps, the show is unpredictable in that we expect the process to be faster, but perhaps we also know from real life that such process will be all life consuming for someone as "damaged" as her. We also should know from real life that family and friends are also caught in this vortex. If you read this far, I would say, stick with it, it is not a comedy as "full of laughs;" it is a comedy of life happening in a moment for this person and we are just there to view the ride.
Shadow and Bone (2021)
Nicely done
I first have to say I read the wonderful involving story narrated in the Trilogy by author Leigh Bardugo. I like it when the story is brought to the screen in recreating the events written in the books. Some events on the show are unrecognizable in the telling the written story. Despite all of the nice things the show has to present, that revision of the story on screen has to be said is not, in the many intances it happens, a positive thing. In knowing the novel, I hope there is substantial fan base for the show to continue. The first season just wetted our apetite for what is to come.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Edge of your seat action
Seat at the edge of your seat, and enjoy the action. I think the lull spots in the movie are necessary to allow us to catch our breath. I did not mind them at all, and they were are necessary part of the story moving forward. This is a good creation with enough innovation and twists on an invading species stories, that there is no need to overthink it. Just bring your imagination with you and let the events unfold.
