The Swearing Jar (2022)
Poignant, Beautiful and Sticks to the heart
I watched this movie last night on a plane and had near to no expectations of it. It appeared to be the best of a pretty dire bunch. I was so pleasantly surprised by how well this movie was made. The actors were perfect, the music and vocals of ms Clemmens were hauntingly beautiful. I c'ant say enough about how this movie drew me in and made me laugh and cry. Well beyond a Hallmark movie - which I do love - this movie got to the depths of love, loss, pain and the power of love to awaken and heal.
It is often the case that Canadian airlines throw in a few Canadian movies to fulfill CRTC Guidance and often, they are so random and uninspired, I normally avoid them. This movie deserves to be promoted for its own merit, not just to satisfy Canadian content. A true gem of a movie.
Schitt$ Creek: Singles Week (2018)
Moving and funny - one of the best!
I love how Schitts Creek manages to take you to the edge of emotional collapse - only to bring you back with laughter. This episode is poignant, emotional and still fun and funny. I laughed with tears running down my face.
Schitt$ Creek: Smoke Signals (2020)
Another great start to a fabulous show
I love this show and so sad this is the last season. It has made me laugh, cry and think. I'm always moved by the characters, the story lines and the subtle messages of love, acceptance and family that is the heart of this series. Long May it last in the hearts of all of us fans who love it.
Little Women (2019)
Generally good - great acting
I love this story - seen many versions. This was good but found the editing from past to present rather confusing and annoying. That said, some seriously good acting and great fun dynamics with the sisters.
David Foster: Off the Record (2019)
An inspiring film, an inspired man and a musical legacy for all time
I just finished watching this documentary about David Foster and I'm left breathless. I have always admired his music and his talent at producing phenomenal songs. Getting into more of who the man is was a real revelation. A decent man, imperfect, determined and still striving; long may he continue to create these musical masterpieces.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)
A Beautiful Movie in our Theatres
What can I say that hasn't been said; a touchingly lovely movie that shines a light on the values that really matter. This Movie epitomises everything that is good and kind about people and points to a possibility of redemption through forgiveness. Not something that seems to be featured in the current media climate.
The Rooftop Christmas Tree (2016)
Best Christmas Movie
I do love a good Christmas movie and Hallmark do dominate this particular niche. This movie isn't Hallmark and a few differences made it for me. Small but significant features; 1) they actually filmed it in the winter time - real snow and visible breath and 2) a story line that was genuinely touching and in the true spirit of Christmas.my only small quibble that has been mentioned, is the very quick transition from unpleasant and arrogant male lead to sincere, genuine lovely guy.
Other than that, a well acted movie with a good story line. Best Christmas movie I've seen this year. And that is saying something.
Secret City (2016)
An addictive ride
Love this series - can't get enough. The political intrigue is addictive and very believable. My husband and I have to limit ourselves to two a night; we'd likely be up all night watch it otherwise. Long May it last.
Nancy Drew (2019)
Just plain bad
I was looking forward to this show - loved Nancy Drew books as a kid. This series is not even close. Terrible is to good a word to describe this.
Last Christmas (2019)
Lovely Christmas Movie with a twist
I liked this movie and I didn't expect to. I had very low expectations and happily they were more than exceeded. This is a very sweet movie that moves in very unexpected ways. I love that Emma Thompson is a somewhat unappealing character and she played it well. Not an easy thing for someone who has achieved so much in movie land. All in all, a better movie than was reviewed in the papers.
The Parent Trap (1961)
A classic that survives the test of time
Saw this movie for th first time when I was a young girl - 9 I'm thinking - and I loved it then and love it now. The cast is perfect, the story is fun and the overall experience is sheer magic. Who can resist the idea of twins separated at birth coming together to get their parents back together. Total fun that endures to this day.
Still I Strive (2012)
Moving, Inspiring and Well Worth Watching
I had the privilege of seeing this film when it previewed in California in the summer of 2012. I was moved, inspired and profoundly touched by this movie and the content.
For me this was truly the triumph of the creative spirit determined to survive against overwhelming odds. The fact that it is a story within a documentary was itself an act of inspiration and ingenuity that I think added to my overall enjoyment of the film.
As someone who works in the area of 'transformation' I was impressed by how the medium of theatre was used so skillfully to bring about such a deep and meaningful message to the audience while providing a vehicle that assisted in the healing and transformation of the subjects.
Brilliantly done and a must see.
