The Night Agent (2023)
Entertaining enough, with bad dialogues
The storyline is ok, with quite a few plot twists. Nice (though not very original ) idea of assassination plot against the POTUS. The scenery and costumes is also ok.
It is the acting and - particularly - the dialogues that screw it up. When you are watching the actors talking, it feels as if the conversations have been written by a 17 year-old. The should definitely be improved.
The development of the attraction/love between the main characters is also too forced and a little teenager-like, predictable and lacks depth. A little more backstory to these characters with also have been a plus.
Hope to see some improvements is the second season.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
What happened, Zack Snyder?
Sci-fi Star Wars-like movie. The plot is poor and predictable, acting is average at best and CGI looks cheap.
It gets a little bloody, in Snyder's style, but the visuals and photography are quite far from what he has used his fans to.
There's practically no character building and it all revolves around a revolution you don't really care much about, as you either don't understand it or you haven't been properly introduced to. Maybe a prequel along the line would make it more enjoyable.
I usually enjoy Zack Snyder's movies, but the rebel moon is probably one of the worst I've seen him direct.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Great CGI, poor story line
It is so obvious that this HP universe story no long comes from a book, but from a screenplay. The characters don't have much depth, you don't really get connected to them nor care much about what will happen at the end. The "Fantastic Beasts" movies have become something you just wanna watch due to the nice CGI while secretly wishing to experience some of the good old HP magical world.
In the magical duels from Fantastic Beasts, it looks like the Wizards are just firing colourful lasers from the tip of their wands. Zero originality. One really comes to miss fights like Dumbledore vs. Voldemort in the Ministry of Magic, for example.
It feels like the HP cinematic universe is slowly dying and becoming a hollow Hollywood blockbuster.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
They should have left The Matrix alone.
The only quality thing that you get from watching this movie is the outstanding CGI.
"Matrix Resurrections"' plot is disappointingly arid. 90% of it revolves around the rescue of Neo and Trinity from the Matrix and, when they succeed, they go and tell the Matrix's boss that they are going to transform it into a more pleasant place to humans. Oh my, what a waste of time...
The fights are boring and the new actors, brought in to substitute the ones that got too old, are way less engaging and lack charisma.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
A mixture of the Alien franchise movie with time travel
Nice entertaining Saturday night blockbuster movie.
Not spectacular, but good enough not to be bored watching it. It does not feel like an original movie, but a blending between previous concepts: Prometheus and time travel put together.
The acting is adequate, as are the CGI, but the story line is quite shallow and the ending feels rushed. Nonetheless, recommendable.
Gods of Egypt (2016)
Great potential, bad achievement
This movie could have been great! Unexplored mythology in the cinema with so much to go from there...
But what came out was a movie with a hollow storyline and crappy CGI. It is a movie to watch in a hangover day, when you wish to think of nothing and just lay on the couch as a useless human being
The Man from Earth: Holocene (2017)
Awful sequel to an excelent movie
A horrible attempt to keep the story going.
The first movie (The Man from Earth) occurs in a single room and benefits from an incredible, exciting and original screenplay.
On the other hand, this sequel tries to distance itself from an Indie-like genre and to become more commercial. Unfortunately, it trashes the original story, using disappointing actors and a nonsense script, resulting on a hideous part two.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
A saga conclusion under the average
It is worth watching it. However, its quality is clearly under the classical and original episodes (IV-VI), as well as its 2 predecessors (VII & VIII).
A typical JJ Abrams sci-fi/fantasy movie, with fast scenes and light-speed story development, losing part of its epic characteristics.
I recommend it; however, don't be surprised if the Episode IX disappoints you.
Weekend Box Office: Weekend Box Office: March 15 to 17 (2019)
A good movie, but below Avengers's quality average
A nice movie for superheroes fans to watch. Nevertheless, the story is quite shallow (or maybe just too cut out to fit in the movie) and predictable. Acting is not bad (Samuel L. Jackson!), but could be better.
