Fallen (2016)
I wish I could love this movie
Years ago I read the entire book series, and thoroughly enjoyed reading them. I honestly forgot all about Fallen until i stumbled unto the movie on a streaming service. Being surprised the movie came out without me noticing.
That said, it's almost painful to watch. The books really provided so much material that I can't excuse the lack of vision present in this movie adaptation. The scenes, storyline (which is completely missing), plots and context just make you feel like you're a bystander peeking at the events unfolding around you but not knowing who, what, where, when and how it came to be.
In the first thirty minutes there is a lot going on yet it all feels very random, the same can be said about the Twilight movies but they cleverly fixed that hot mess with the addition of a narration. There is literally no hook and the dialogue feels extremely forced. Furthermore huge pieces of dialogue didn't seem to have made the cut as most of it seems to be just a few sentences having to represent full blown conversations.
The casting is decent, but the overall production feels low budget and poorly edited in post.
Pray Away (2021)
When apologies aren't enough
This documentary, while it's good, it's so angering and gut turning that it is truly hard to watch.
It's an exercise in turning around root issues and not a single time addressing them.
Rita (2012)
Surprised at how good this is.
I think we all can think about this one anarchist teacher we once had, at least I can. This series follows Rita a teacher who doesn't follow the rules and who's live is slowly falling further apart because of her behavior. Apart from family troubles she gets caught in quite a few affairs, oh the drama, which pretty much gives her the tittle of home wrecker.
The series does draw you in when you watch it, the awkward scenes tend to be cringe- worthy but none the less it's all very thought out.
The lead actress does a fabulous job, the other actors are quite on point as well and portray interesting characters that you just want to get to know inside out.
Overall it's pretty great.
G.B.F. (2013)
Drama, just a notch of love and not your typical high school film
I first thought the movie would turn out to be an à la "Another Gay Movie/Sequel junk movie. To my surprise it did have a hint of ridiculousness but an overall feel good touch and lots of stereotypical drama, while keeping it real at the same time. The movie keeps surprising throughout the whole story, at some points you think "hey it's all gonna work out just fine" to then find out the opposite, and then it goes back to normal and so on and so forth. I would suggest this to anyone gay or straight, male or female and anyone in between. I also wanna add to this review that this movie does have an amazing cast who all did a good job at performing very realistically and not over the top.
Lo imposible (2012)
Didn't expect it to be this good
It's been a long time since I've seen such an emotional yet beautifully shot movie. I didn't really expect anything from it, since a friend of mine decided what we'd watch, but I was pleasantly surprised by how terrifying yet realistic this movie was. Knowing the whole movie is based on a true story me and my friend actually had the feeling after we had seen it that the picture we both personally had of hurricanes etc. and the impact they bring on people their lives was quite incorrect. The movie contains quite a bit of action to keep you occupied and heart warming emotional moments to smile and weep. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants a good realistic movie to watch.
