Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part IV (2022)
Sadly a forgettable episode full of bad writing and plot holes
The episode starts with Reva kidnapping Leia for the second time in four episodes (?!), and Obi-Wan attempting a daring rescue.
A pattern of intentional cat and mouse is starting to develop in the series. Leia being used as bait and a cheap excuse to create "suspense" and move the story from planet to planet.
I've waited so long for this series, and the Mandalorian got me extra hyped. Sadly Disney insists on letting the "experience of Reva's story" steal the limelight, while everyone watching came expecting to follow Kenobi's story. Obi-Wan feels more like a support character so far.
Now for the absolute trainwreck of an episode this was...
First of all, Obi-Wan with the support of Tala single-handedly invade one of the Empires so called "fortresses". The fight scenes with the stormtroopers are questionable, and it all feels too easy. With a short episode like this, surely they could have made time for a better story here.
Secondly, Reva is becoming increasingly cringeworthy and annoying with every episode. Through the power of the dark side, she has developed a remarkable sixth-sense where she magically happens to know the right place to look, the right thing to do, and the right thing to say at all times. The interrogation with Leia was pure cringe, where it felt more like an adult got interrogated than a child.
Later in the episode our heroes make a daring escape through an Empire fortress on high alert with Leia hiding under Obi-Wan's cape, "disguised" as an imperial officer. Not a single person out of the hundreds (or thousands) at the base give them as much as a second look or thought. Before lo and behold, our main villain Reva appears with her elite troops out of nowhere seemingly knowing exactly where Tala and Obi-Wan are located, even though the only clue they got was an alarm...
Then as our heroes are just about to get killed, two resistance fighters manage to fly ALONE and UNDETECTED into the hangar of an Empire FORTRESS without as much as a single shot fired at them, wiping out all the stormtroopers and Empire personell. Except for Reva, of course... Our heroes live to fight another day.. Sigh...
I won't even bother to comment on the massive plot hole at the end where "this was the plan all along"... I'm too frustrated to even bother. Will I watch the rest of the series because of Ewan McGregor and nostalgia? Yes. Do I want to? I'm not so sure...
Den skyldige (2018)
Insanely exciting all the way to the end
With an amazing actor in Jacob Cedergren, the director and crew of this film has pulled off what appears to be one of the best low-budget movies ever made.
The movie is immensely exciting, and deserves to be world famous. Everything about this movie is perfect, and shows that you don't need deep hollywood pockets to make an amazing movie.
Extra points for having a great trailer without spoilers, seems like this is a hard thing to do for most producers nowadays...
The Darkest Minds (2018)
One of 2018s great dissapointments
The darkest minds is without a doubt a movie with talented actors and great CGI. Unfortunately it cannot be ignored that the movie has no real progression in terms of a buildup, and the scene that is supposed to be the climax of the movie feels rather anti-climatic.
The movie is filled with clichés, everything from the kids vs adults to the segregation by colour and the obvious bad guy pretending to be the good guy. All in all it feels like the movie is late to the Maze Runner / Hunger Games / Divergent party.
The big "plot twist" in the movie is extremely obvious all the way through the "buildup" (if you can even call it a buildup), and the movie has a lot of plot holes.
The movie ends with a typical sequel "cliffhanger" scene.
All in all, the movie is entertaining because of the chemistry between the main charachter and the lead, as well as the great cinematic effects.
This movie does not deserve a sequel...
