The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Great Movie
I have to say that this movie had the right actors for the job. Like some other guy said, that voice of Aslan was perfect and no one, I mean NO ONE, could've done a better job (that guy has been appearing in a lot of big films this/last year too). Lucy was perfect, I mean her facial expressions were priceless and Edmund was rather well too. I think they could've done a better job with the eldest brother though, just my opinion, but he pulled off a good enough job (just not up to par with Aslan, Lucy, and Edmund). And what about that white witch eh? when you see female villains they're usually not realistic IMO, but this one was perfect. Feminity mixed with cruelty - it was great!
For Christians you could see it as I did: Aslan represents Christ, the kids humanity, the white witch Satan and her armies his demons, and the "great magic" the law of the Bible in the Old Testament. Edmund represents all of humanity under the law, were guilty and have to die according to God's law and justice; however, Aslan representing Christ fulfills the laws requirements and dies for Edmunds treachery, but rose again from the dead (he even is in distress alone in a garden like Christ was in the Garden of Gethsemene). The battle clearly, IMO, represents Armageddon and how everything seems lost and Aslan comes just in the nick of time to save the day, like Christ will do, fits in with that. O yea, up till they go back home that represents the Millenial reign. For me it really helped spiritually, and I normally never put any credit into movies for spiritual things, but it did because it showed me how in the end Christ will have so much He will give to His followers and as we see clearly with Edmund Christians don't deserve it, but He gives it freely and lovingly. Whether or not C.S. Lewis meant the movie to be taken this way I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure from the little I know about him (BTW his book Pilgrim's Regressing is like John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, great book and enjoyed reading it)that this is the way it was meant to be taken.
From Wikipedia's biography on C.S. Lewis "His most famous works, the Chronicles of Narnia, contain many strong Christian messages. These are often mistaken for allegory, but, as Lewis himself said, are certainly not allegory. Lewis is said to have stated that he wrote the novels when he wondered what it would be like if Jesus Christ was incarnated on another world or planet to save the souls of those inhabitants." So as you can see it wasn't meant to be an allegory but rather a "what if" Christ had died for other creatures on another planet. All in all the Christian messages are there intentional or unintentional and I think in this case somewhat intentional but not enitrely. Whatever, I liked the movie. :)
I will be buying the Chronicles of Narnia books and read them and hopefully if they do make sequels they don't ruin such a great movie but enhance it. I haven't liked a movie this much in a long time, great great movie go out, get the kids, or even just yourself, and watch it.
Angels in the Outfield (1994)
A Grrrrrrrrrrreat Family Movie!
With all the "Adult" innuendos in todays family movies its nice to see one where you don't have to worry about that and can just sit back and enjoy a family with your kids. Yes, this movie might have a few swear-words (there's that time where Knox swears, but they don't let you hear the full words), but for the most part this movie is truly as clean as they come (and that's including movies from back in the day). Not only that, its very enjoyable, one of my favorites, and just a great clean and fun movie to watch with the family.
The only thing I have against this movie is that it is too short and I wish there could be more of some of the memorable parts that are in it, I'm not going to mention them because I don't want any spoilers here.
All in all nicely done and a great movie to watch; so go out and get the kids, make some cookies, and watch this movie!
