Live action crime with hillarious narration
19 October 2021
I from the states but enjoy watching UK cop shows. Just watched the first episode of season 19 and it had me rolling (No pun intended). Speaking of puns, whoever is writes the puns for this show deserves a pulitzer. "grave error." Still laughing at that one. Highly recommended for both the police work as well as the puns.

Dumb.
23 February 2021
Kind of started out promising but turned into a comedy about halfway through. Ron Howard's superficial depiction of native american mysticism turned the movie into a joke. But hey, if you're under 12, you might just enjoy it. Just don't expect any adult-level entertainment here.

Dumb script. Dumb characters. A UK production dumbed-down for an American audience. Sad.

Wow, this was bad.
8 December 2019
This was almost comical bad. Worst thing I've ever seen on PBS. Everything was as flat as a Hallmark movie with even less intrigue. Dialog and acting was even worse. Surprised I got through the whole thing, but at some point I decided it was interesting because it was so horrifically bad.

Boring
11 October 2019
Some other critic described the movie as "A boring decent into madness." I agree. Essentially a movie about the development of the Joker character without giving him an antagonist or purpose to hang a plot on. An anti-hero without a cause results in a very boring movie.

Disjointed uninspired mess.

Hey, the old set is still there, let's make a movie. Unfortunately, the movie is nothing like the quality of the original series. Don't waist your time.

Season 1, OK, the rest are dogs
8 July 2019
Enjoyed season 1. Had to give up on seasons 2 and 3 after watching just a few episodes. Season 3 might even be the worst detective series ever produced. Twas more of a soap opera than a mystery and boring as hell. Not being able to rate seasons on their own, I'm giving all of them a 3 star rating so at least people will be spared from watching seasons 2 and 3.

Telling the truth in the face of adversity
2 July 2019
Excellent. Has all the elemnts of very well-done production. But most important, it's a morrality play about not backing down from those who lie at the behest of the state and the apparatchiks who put their own self-interest above the lives of others. A nice little cautionary tale for these times as we see the very same pathology increasing here in the US. Bravo HBO.

Didn't work for me.
3 June 2019
I dunno. In spite of being of British drama/comedy enthusiast, this one just didn't do it for me. Felt a little like "We are the world" where every one of the actors in it are great in their own right, but put 'em all together for the sake of guaranteeing viewership, and you end up with a mediocre production. A bit too much cameo and not enough substance. And way 'over the top' for me. I don't think it was a bad idea or that it didn't have potential,it was just too in your face and tried too hard. Would have preferred a more subtle, sophisticated aproach.

God help you if don't enjoy this

This show pulls no punches and it moves along at hyper speed with the best writing, acting and story lines you'll ever experience. In a world full of junk drama, always thankful there are still people who can still produce at this level of brilliance. I bow to you sirs and madames.

Don't pass it up

This is a really well=done movie. Love thwarted by jealousy, bad luck and misunderstandings leading to tragedy. Well acted, beautifully shot and nuanced. Beuatifully done. Unfortunate it hasn't received more attention.

Ignore the bad reviews
20 July 2018
Frankly, I don't understand why this is getting bad reviews. I too, watch a lot of British drama, and although the pacing is a little slower than most, it's an extremely well-done series. It does start out slowly, but by the third episode I was totally invested in the story and the characters. The photography and set design was superb, as was the setting. But what I found most compeling was how natural and real the actors all seemed. Everyone seemed to fit their roles perfectly and the lead actress who plays the lead detective is a joy to watch.

Don't pass this one by. No, it's not frenetic. But it has a rare depth and realism that makes it even more enjoyable.

One of the best things I've seen in a long while.
30 June 2018
Not sure how this ended up on Amazon Prime, as I usually don't expect this level of quality for free, but this three part series is truly excellent. Great cast, great story, great writing. Make sure you set enough time to watch all three episodes in one sitting, because you're not going to want to put this one down.

Fizzles out rapidly
30 May 2018
Interesting premise with a fun performance by Jodie Comer that starts out well then rapidly goes down hill. After about the third episode, it would seem the writers went on strike, the plot vaporizes and the viewer is left wondering what purpose the characters serve, or what their quest is. It's almost a though the director decided to throw out the script halfway through and make up the rest as he or she went along. The result is, by the end of the series you're watching a production that's far inferior to the one you started out watching. If you don't want to pass on it completely, I'd suggest watching the first three episodes then switching it off.

Best detective show hands down
14 February 2018
Probably too well done to be a smash hit. But this is surely the best detective show ever produced. The incredible twists and turns in the plot line will keep you glued to your screen. Absolutely brilliant script writing supported by perfect casting and acting.Simply, as good as it gets.

The Nice Guys (2016)
3/10
Made for teens.
22 May 2016
OK, so IMDb wants me to write 10 lines describing this terrible movie. I'll try my best.

Are you a ten to fifteen year old boy? If so, you may enjoy this. Did you enjoy 48 hrs with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte? Then rent it and watch it instead. Have you not seen 48 hrs? Same advise.

If you've seen the trailer for 'Nice Guys' then save your money, you've already seen the best parts of this movie. Actually, the trailer is far superior to the actual movie.

Ryan Gosling...Why did you agree to star in this? Have you already retired or did you do something wrong and offend some Hollywood big wig who wanted you to make amends by staring in the worst movie of the year?

Russell Crowe....Wow. When I think back to all those terrific movies you made....

Kudos to the young girl who played Ryan Gosling's daughter in this. She actually did a pretty good job.

Bottom line: This movie was made for adolescents. Yet it's R-rated for good reason --- the subject matter is for adults only. But, considering the idiotic story line, campy acting, and corny gags, I can't see how anyone outside of an adolescent boy could enjoy this movie. Go figure.

Interesting perspective on hero worship and denial
11 June 2015
A well done documentary about how people react when the people and things they believe in turn out to be an illusion. Being from the 'liberal west coast', I've never understood how football could possibly reach the level of reverence it enjoys elsewhere. But here it is in all its glory... supported by hoards who seem more concerned with sportsball than anything else in their lives -- including justice for abused kids. Well okay, maybe they care for the kids as long as the football games don't stop and no one attacks their coach. For without football, we are nothing.

In all fairness, the documentary did include representatives from the non-reverent point of view. But it's witnessing the reactions of people who have so much invested in a sport that has achieved cult status, as well as the mechanics of group think, that make this an interesting doc. A good study in the sort of self-righteous mentality that starts wars. But who am I judge? I'm a west coast liberal. I'd rather do almost anything else than watch football.
