Honest (2008)
Remake to avoid, see the original
The New Zealand show Outrageous Fortune has had 3 good seasons.
The first being the best and funniest. However, watching 10 minutes of honest I can't understand why they had to remake this show. They weren't anywhere near the acting of the original, using the same story and plot.
English people speak English, NEW ZEALAND speaks English.. so why didn't they just buy the show and put it on TV in England.
Usually we get Korean, French, and Italian movies remade into English because, well I will quote someone who moaned to me, " I do not want to read subtitles ".
So , where is the excuse for a show from New Zealand.
Even worse...America. They remake everything out of the UK. Why can't they show English shows in America???
It would make sense if any of these remakes were any good. But they never are!
Dissonances (2003)
Excellent
Entertaining.. movie is filmed using point of view and time change. The initial event in the movie is a tragedy.. however, the rest of the movie lets you feel that the tragedy is dealing with tragedy never the actual tragedy.
This Canadian production uses both English and French and with the various characters and points of view creates an intricate plot out of a simple event. What I found refreshing is the lack of any twist or surprises. There are no mishaps in life. We create our lives. It becomes what we make of it. The father in this movie can't understand that. An incident caused by fate. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time is out of his control, but how one reacts to it is key.
This was all conveyed in a fast paced interesting manner.
Well done.

Violence
Plenty of violence. The movie is about Terror not about corny one line jokes or how menacing you can look. This is a movie well done, that will only get better in the sequel. It is as if there is more to be told about this intriguing and unknown gangsters. No night clubs where everyone knows your name. Family people with an agenda...so refreshing... excellent. This movie can be compared to Bourne Identity and Ronin where those movies were full of meaningless banter about who is to who and what is to what. None of that here. Very simple gangster life. Except the emotion is portrayed in the family of the lead actor. I can see a sequel to this movie on the level of GodFather II. With the budget and the right script these are the movies that are sleepers that can become big big hits!
