Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024)
Watching grass grow is more exciting than HEERAMANDI.
After a long time I saw a show so impotent, so cringy, so torturously slow that I struggled to finish the 1st episode (some of it in fast forward) which is my norm to say I gave a show a fair hearing.
"All style and no substance" you mush have heard of? This applies to this show like a tee. This Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus is 10 kms wide and 1 mm thick. SLB is the master of sets and costumes and I must say these are brilliant here without a doubt. Well that's about all the good news there is for Heeramandi.
After the smoke and mirrors effect wears off and you concentrate on the plot, you are bombarded with 20 characters in rapid fire motion, going forward and backward with gay abandon and it all looks and feels like a bad LSD trip in which even Confucius would not be blamed for getting totally Confused & Confounded.
After racking my brain for 1.5 episodes and trying to find out if there is a plot line,I finally got a migraine and decided that in this game of who inflicts the most torture, SLB had definately won. I conceded and gave up. There's only that much a human brain can take.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
PS Watch grass growing or even a 3 hour movie of Salman Khan snoring, it's more exciting. 😇😎
Indian Police Force (2024)
Deja Vu script smothers Rohit Shetty's OTT Magnum Opus
Indian Police Force was a average watch.
The performances were from everyone were honest to goodness. The production was lavish and clearly visible in Rohit Shettys ubiquitous car chases and crashes.
Shilpa did a good job and her character in this series was of substance and not just good looks.
Unfortunately, the script was very ordinary, almost identical to 10-15 other movies before that. There were hardly any twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Nowadays, script is king. Script is the foundation. And the script here did not fit well and devalued the show in spite of all the other pieces of the jigsaw fitting quite well.
I'm a big fan of Hussain Zaidi since a long time. It is to be noted that all his books which have been successful are non fiction. Obviously, he is much better at that rather than creating his own scripts. In other words, he has NEVER written a script. He has just related what has happened in front of him. This is his 1st attempt and it really shows that he should stick to non fiction.
Sapne Vs Everyone (2023)
A MASTERCLASS!! No more KHANS, Welcome Ambrish Verma!!
In Bollywood, after an eternity comes a character so impressionable, charismatic and endearing that it's etched in mind for years to come.
Ambrish Verma is a name I'd never heard of till I started watching this serial. And from the word go, he is nothing less than a H bomb. A totally electrifying entry which would put all Bollywood entries to shame sets the tone for a OMG script (Ambrish Verma) with razor sharp editing and a 8 pack taut direction (again by Ambrish Verma).
The 2 protagonists (Paramvir Cheema as Prashant) are Yin n Yang yet both complement each other like vinaigrette dressing in a tossed salad. If it wasn't for Ambrish, Parambirs performance would have been written in red letters itself.
But wait, there is more to come. Vijayant Kohli as Kukreja gives a performance which is Mogamboesque ie will be remembered for years to come. His soto voce voice delivery, menacing cool looks, totally unpredictable actions (yet dressed suavely) always sends a shiver down the spine every time he makes an entry. It's a memorable, bring-the-house-down performance, a treat for sore eyes.
It's once in years that a performance of Ambrish Verma's type comes along and it will be once in decades that such incredible 3 performances come in one show and that too wrapped in such a gorgeous script. Guys, consider yourself lucky to be able to watch this Amrish Verma masterpiece show.
Please leave everything you are watching and watch SAPNE VERSUS EVERYONE on YOUTUBE. It's a treat you will savour for weeks after watching it. And move over SRK, Salman, Amir, Hritik et al.....
I have a new HERO......and his name is Ambrish Verma.
Sardar Udham (2021)
My biggest yawn
I had so many expectations from this movie but I must say it's one of the slowest moving movies ever. It could easily have been made in half the time and still I doubt it would be interesting. After 20 minutes, I started fast forwarding it and even then it wouldn't speed up. Only thing going for it were the costume designs and the very realistic settings of that period. The 2 stars I give it is just for those 2 aspects.
This director 10 kms wide on style and has 1 mm in substance. A big yawn guys, please give it a miss unless you enjoy watching a snail on crutches do 10 metres.
Inside Look: The Assassination of Gianni Versace - American Crime Story (2017)
TORTURE OF THE SENSES
Watching a snail on crutches do 100 meters is a far more interesting proposition than this torturously slow depiction of Gianni Versace's murder. Just stay away and save yourself $ and masochism.
