Surprising standouts

I should probably just call this list "almost a favorite." Each film here turned out to be better than it looked to me. A few were on my radar for a long time before I finally watched them, and I wished I hadn't waited. A few looked like they were made for mainstream and wouldn't be my style or not what I wanted, but whoa. A handful were obviously going to be praised, but most seemed like they'd be mediocre or bad and then won me over immediately. Some were never popular with critics, but I must be exactly the audience they were going for. These haven't quite risen to or stayed at the top in my massive collection, but they deserve more than "honorable mention."
Streaming exclusives

This is a list of movies and series I would buy, but they are streaming-only releases. Some are because they are related to directors I like. Others are remakes of or sequels to titles I have. A few simply feature actors or topics I like, but I can usually let that stuff go. You can see I'm frustrated by Disney's streaming-only handling of the MCU and Star Wars franchises.
My family's titles, not mine

These movies (or complete TV series) either belong to my wife or my son has them from when he was a kid. Naturally I've seen most of them, or at least parts of them, but I don't claim them in my collection.
Top 60 non-franchise movies

Public
These non-franchise films define my current taste in movies. I mean that very intentionally -- when I watch them, I say "THAT'S why I watch movies." As a result, it turns out that they are all from my lifetime, mostly from my adult life since my tastes have changed and I try to recognize when I love something purely out of nostalgia. I've left in a few that had reboots, single sequels, sequels with other actors, or weak sequels in an unsuccessful attempt to build a lasting franchise. I attempted to rank them, but really only the groupings are fairly reliable: 1-20, 21-40, 41-60. It's also worth noting that my favorite Asian films go on a separate list.
Haven't seen or can't remember

Movies that blipped onto my radar because they seem to fit my tastes, but fall into one of these categories: I haven't seen it, I don't want to see it, I have only seen parts, or maybe I saw it but can't remember much of anything. I tend not to care for many movies older than the late '60s, but a bunch of best picture winners are on here because I once intended to watch them all.
Movie limbo

I keep lists all over the place, and yet for whatever reason, I have digital copies of these titles but don't want them on DVD or Blu-ray.
Recasting or replacing the main character

This is not a list of every time a sequel gets made with new actors or main characters. It's just the ones I'm skeptical about due to that change. In other words, I haven't seen them or bought them.
Roger Corman owned and wished
35 titles |

This is a playlist of Roger Corman movies (directed or produced by, including as uncredited executive producer via New World Pictures) that I either own or have on my wish list. If a film started a franchise with sequels or remakes like Death Race, I've just listed the first.
RRR I need to watch (reboots, remakes, and returns-of)
103 titles |
Public
As in my ranked list once I watch these, I'm defining reboots as starting the story over, remakes as filming it again for a new generation or audience, and returns-of as late sequels that bring back the old cast for a reunion. Occasionally there is an entry that I just don't care about, like the late attempt to return to the National Lampoon's Vacation series or some of the remakes of classic horror and drama, especially if they are straight-to-video. I also mostly, but not completely, ignore made-for-TV remakes, and there's no way I'm watching every Disney attempt to remake their own classic live-action movies like Freaky Friday. It's hard enough to keep up with their remakes of animated classics.
Favorite actresses

I'm middle aged and I like quirky movies, so I tend to like older women who will still take parts where they have to fully commit to a character - stretching them physically, compromising their appearance, or dabbling in genres with niche appeal.
