Tamasha (2015)
Mood Swings of a Bipolar Psycho
The movie should be renamed to 'MOOD SWINGS OF A BIPOLAR PSYCHO'. Please do not compare it to other good works of Imtiaz Ali, this one is just mediocre. The only high points are Ranbir and Deepika's flawless performance, and the cinematography in the first half. The second half is dragged, and moves from one baseless frame to another, at one point you feel like moving out of the theater. Rehman's music is good, but not great. The chemistry between the lead actors is spicy, however it is spoilt by bland narration and poor direction. Watch it only if you wish to see Ranbir and Deepika's award worthy performance. In a nutshell - Imtiaz Ali succeeds in making TAMASHA of the audience."
Drishyam (2015)
This visual is DEEPLY DECEPTIVE
If you thought Ajay Devgan and Tabu's riveting performances would be a reason sufficient enough to watch this movie, then let me tell you.It is the film's story which wins in the end. First half is lose and needs editing, however the second half doesn't let you even move your eyeballs off the screen. Shriya Saran is good in looks n below average in acting. Both her daughters look convincing and act decently well. The story keeps you glued till the last frame, and the last 1 minute of conclusion gives you goosebumps and deserves claps.Intense, engaging, sharp and an intelligent thriller. This visual is DEEPLY DECEPTIVE.
Baby (2015)
BABY is mature,fast-paced,edge-of-the-seat thriller.....an instant classic
Haven't seen anything more interesting and thrilling than this one in the last few years. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it one of the finest movies produced by Indian Cinema. With almost 3 hours of run-time,this edge-of-the-seat masterpiece has enough chills and goosebumps to keep you glued to your seats throughout. Akshay lives the character pitch perfect and is absolutely phenomenal, and so are all other actors including Danny and Anupam Kher, however a special mention for Taapsee Pannu, who shines in a short cameo. The background score is so profound that it automatically raises your heart-beat. This BABY is mature enough to be called an instant classic. MISS IT AT YOUR OWN PERIL"
Mardaani (2014)
Khoob Ladi MARDAANI
After almost 2 years,Rani Mukherjee dazzles the silver screen with her impactful and fearless rendition of CBI officer Shivani (Shivaji) Roy.She is an institution and inspiration for many newbies who do nothing more than painting their faces and running around trees. Director Pradeep Sarkar not only extracts a power-packed performance from all the actors, but also minutely explores the in-depth layers of child trafficking. The movie has enough chills and thrills to keep you glued to your seats. Hats off to Yashraj for presenting cinema in its purest form without sensationalizing or speaking over-the-top. It is one of the best movies of this year, though viewer's discretion is recommended (due to Adult Content), people who like sensible cinema shouldn't miss it.
Dhoom:3 (2013)
DHOOM : Amir Rocks but movie fails
First things first, the movie is heavily copied from 'PRESTIGE'.You may like it only till the time the secret isn't revealed, and once it is out,you feel cheated. Almost 3 hours long, the second half is clichéd n overdone. No stamp required to verify Amir's acting skills,he is the only reason that will take you to the theatres. Abhishek looks bad and acts just average, and Uday has become even lamer dis time, his overacting annoys you to the core. A special mention for the Kamli song, where Kat looks stunning. She jumps, jiggles n performs various trapeze acts with full conviction. There are few chills n thrills but they are not gud enough to qualify this movie as a total paisa vasool. "BELOW AVERAGE AND FAR BELOW EXPECTATIONS"
Bullett Raja (2013)
Bullett Raja holds your attention and Saif shines as Raja Mishra
Tigmanshu Dhulia is back with a gripping story-line and crisp dialogs that hold your attention throughout the movie.Shots from all famous places in and around Lucknow...from Imambara,Hazratganj,Residency,Airport,High Court to Malihabad and Barabanki jail have been captured. Jimmy Sheirgill is excellent and Saif shines as Raja Mishra. They both give performances worthy of giving them nomination in next year's award functions. Wherein all the actors from Raj Babbar to Gulshan Grover suit in their respective roles, however Mahi Gill looks vulgar and Vidyut Jamwal, with a wooden face has nothing more to showcase except few circus stunts. A special mention for the peppy number Tamanche Pe Disco. You will love the movie for its desi dialects (provided you understand their meaning) and for Saif Ali Khan. Go For It.
Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela (2013)
This RamLeela has nothing new to offer
The movie suffers from ISHAQZAADE hangover, you feel sitting in an 'Advanced Garba learning' class. Lengthy plot and unnecessary songs make it even worse, so much so that you desperately wait for the interval. Ranveer is good n Deepika decent, however the show-stealer is Supriya Pathak, who gives a phenomenal performance as lady don Dhankor Baa. Our Gujju Romeo and Juliet exchanging cheasy love messages on mobile is weird.Apart from the big canvas and beautiful sets, there is hardly anything worth remembering. Wonder how much TOI charged from SLB for giving it a 5 star rating. This Tapori Ramleela has nothing new to offer. CAN BE MISSED.'
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013)
An inspirational saga of Motivation and Dedication
This is new age cinema where biopics are not meant to b a boring documentary. This movie has every ingredient required for a classic. Farhan Akhtar has left no stone unturned to bring life to Milkha's character...he talks n dances like a sardar ,runs like an athlete, and when he runs...you are forced to say 'BRAVO'.His chiselled body n conviction is worthy of an award. There r many high points n emotional moments (especially the race scenes) which add to d drama n strongly bind u with the protagonist. it is a 3 hrs 7 min long inspirational saga of motivation and dedication. DO NOT MISS it for any reason. Highly recommended"
Lootera (2013)
Breathtaking Cinematography...Excellent Performances
It takes a lot of artistic sensibility to make such a film. Lootera is one film that reminds you of old bollywood movie-making.Even if it didn't have anything to flaunt, one can easily watch it just for the cinematography. Coming to performances,Ranveer Singh's act is brilliant....and Sonakshi does get to showcase her acting skills for the first time (her choice of movies has been pathetic...remember Joker,Son of Sardaar and Rowdy Rathore ?). Whereas the first half is smooth, the other half needs little patience because of its slow pace. Definitely not worthy of the rave reviews it is getting, but a nice one time watch.
Chashme Baddoor (2013)
A sweet funny time-pass movie
Everything in this movie is hilarious, and yes....please do not compare it with David Dhawan's few ventures offlate. This one is actually a fun ride.
Divyendu Sharma is the best in the lot, very natural n with great screen presence. Rishi Kapoor is proving his mettle with versatile roles at this age (wid movies like Do Dooni Chaar, Agneepath n Student of the year). The female lead reminded of Preity Zinta's early days.
The only disappointment is songs (absolutely non-lyrical and non- melodious)....and 'Ali Zafar'.....can someone please tell him to stop hamming and copying SRK?
Chakravyuh (2012)
Beautiful amalgamation of serious cinema with entertainment.
Jam packed hall and pin-drop-silence.Jha is a master of his craft, yet another time he beautifully amalgamates serious cinema with entertainment. Story line is gripping n direction apt. Manoj Bajpai is little above average and doesn't get to showcase his talent much, but the dialect and lingo he uses arrest your attention.Arjun Rampal is decent (though at times his hamming surpasses viewer's tolerance)......Abhay Deol is natural on screen.......but its Anjali Patil aka Juhi ,the gold medalist from National School of Drama, who steals the show in her debut. Another treat for the weekend...Kudos to Jha n team.
English Vinglish (2012)
Sri proved her mettle once again...after 15 years....the original QUEEN of bollywood is back !!
India's Meryl Streep dazzles the silver screen after 15 years with her award winning performance.Nothing better could have been planned for her comeback. She is back to the silver screen....and back with a bang !! Not a single expression missed, not a single dialog overdone. At the age of 49,she still has the oomph n charishma to give the present actresses a run for their money. Amitabh in a short cameo is delightful. Gauri Shinde's direction deserves special applaud. She carved Shashi's character with minutest details, and those have been showcased by Sri in the finest possible manner.
A complete family entertainer, hands down the best movie of this year so far Watch it to know why this movie got a 10 min standing ovation at Toronto film Festival.
