Your Name Here (2008)
Takes me back...
I had a band in my late teen and twenties. (Still do, but more of a hobby these days) But...Dude, this film took me back! I miss those garage playing days and this movie totally made me look back and remember how good it all was! And just how bad we wanted to "make it". I loved the egg player. I mean, come on. An egg player?? There is some really funny stuff in here. The kids were great too and if they really wrote all that music, wow. Not bad little dudes. I highly recommend this to guys like me who had bands, loves music and also – a little trip down memory lane and a whole lot of laughs. In fact, it inspired me enough to dust off my guitar and head into the garage...
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
Where it all began
The "Mockumentary" was invented right here, before your very eyes, in this spectacular comedy parody laugh riot musical masterpiece of a movie. (Can you tell I loved it?) Rob "Meathead" Reiner is at his very best, directing and pulling from this literal band of misfits. The quotes alone from this flick are timeless and the characters are wonderful send-ups of guys I know and have played with (I'm in a band and on a musical movie journey!). Try not to laugh, it is impossible. All of Christopher Guest's movies, Both of The Office (British and USA), Modern Family, Parks and Rec...should all bow down to their maker. This Is Spinal Tap, thank you.
Airheads (1994)
I'm On A Band Kick...
I saw this flick in the theaters way back (1994). I'm a band guy, not professionally, but it eats up a lot of my time as a hobby and every so often I like to revisit some movies having to do with music. On a positive note, I still love the music and the amount of rocker cameos and a huge cast of "Oh HEY...isn't that...?" to be found in Airheads. But on a second viewing via Netflix, the negatives kind of balance out the positives and I give this movie a solid 5. The story left me frustrated and the comedy was eh. This movie could have been so much more. It could have been a classic, instead...it's kinda embarrassing. Stick to swinging in the trees Brendon.
