Rope Art (2000)

Interesting Political Drama
26 June 2004
I found this movie on DVD. The name is misleading. It's really not that much about bondage, but primarily a legal drama. There are some fairly graphic scenes pertaining to bondage art, but these occur mostly in the first act. The story line focuses on how politicians use moral issues to gain support and gain votes, but they may not believe in, or live by the moral stances they take. The story moves very quickly and is informative. Much of the dialog is excellent, and the ending took me by surprise. The acting is above par for a lower budget feature. Micah West (Carrie) is very sexy and a good actress, and Greg Schroeder (Jack Brown) is particularly noteworthy in his role as a political activist. Gianni Russo makes a cameo in the movie as a Senatorial candidate instead of his usual role as a gangster. Some of the technical aspects of the movie are uneven, going from well done to rough, and a couple of the scenes are short on production value. Overall, I liked the movie. It's an interesting film that gives a new slant on the politics of morality. If you like completely independently produced movies, this one is unique.
