Zero Days (2016)
One sided anti western propaganda

Heavily politicized anti US anti Israel hit job. It's well done, but the conclusions are one sided with no serious opposing view points. The history of cyberwarfare goes back to the 1980s at least and this documentary makes it seems like the United States started it with Stuxnet in 2006. Any IT security person will tell you that it's a war that's ongoing and raging for decades.
N Korea, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and others have been attacking western powers non stop for a very long time. The idea that its a problem we started is misinformed and irresponsible. If anything we are quite late to the game and are barely trying to play catch-up. China alone has 100x the man power and processing power that we have. They and others don't bother to challenge us militarily for the moment because they can get away with murder through cyber attacks, theft, control, and manipulation.
Just search US-Cert and see for yourself the constant barrage of attacks that our private and public networks and computers face every second of the day.
Clearly this film maker has a pro Iranian agenda and has done a fair job disguising it.
The Lords of Flatbush (1974)
After consideration of what it wsd
Other reviewers have said "fly on the wall" or "peeking through a window" which is the main impression of the film. It seems like brave directing and artful consideration to create a film that allows the viewer a glimpse into the lives of coming of age teens in the 1950s. Plot? No. Character development? Yes but subtle. It feels like the writers knew exactly what the 50s felt like for that age an setting with some nostalgia but mostly honesty. I can't think of another film set in this era that portrays accuracy to the point of painfulness and independent film sense like this one.
Bravo. But if you watch, try not to get hung up on typical Hollywood formula because you won't find it here.
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
If you don't get Wes Anderson films...
If you don't get Wes Anderson, why are you watching and trashing his films. He has a motif that personifies youth and innocense, wonder and nativity. He shows the follies of adults and upholds the morals of youth, righteousness, and purity. If that expression in film offends you, then don't waste everyone's time and watch. All of his films are less than perfect, but they all add something that you don't get from the normal executive committee Hollywood tripe. He's an artist. If you don't like art films, then please don't watch Wes Anderson. If you like looking at the world from a fresh perspective and appreciate unique perspectives and artistic vision, then please do watch and enjoy.
For me I don't care for drug use and irreverance for all authority in his fims, but that's a small part and a particular perspective, not worthy of trashing an entire work of art.
Vanishing Point (1971)
Great movie for the time
The brief period of the late sixties "free love" and early Seventies "free thought" has crashed like the ideals of those lost drug years.
I like the charger r/t and the non stop dystopian future. One * for each of those aspects, and one more star for the chase scenes and cinematics. However, it's a dated film that may have at best served some very brief generational message that no longer plays.
One can hardly imagine what they were thinking... Tolk, Tolk.
Dracula Untold (2014)
Expectations are everything
This movie is a 7.5 at best. The main problems with the movie are small sequence holes in the timeline, and unnecessary finale, and lack of full development. That being said, what did people expect? Did no one see the trailer or read the title? Did no one look at the PG 13 rating? Historically accurate? No. Frightening horror? No. PG 13 remember? Perfect character and story development? No.
This movie is a cool movie loosely based on Bram Stoker's Dracula and some notion of historical events. Hence the title "untold". It's not some great work of film, story or art. It's just a movie with low aspirations. Most people knew this when they went to see it and enjoyed it as such.
If you want to see a PG 13 film based on the character Dracula in his native Transylvania that reflects on some loose historical events, then watch this film and have fun with it. It shows the powers of darkness, cool action sequences, some decent acting and drama, but does not go overboard with anything. It's just a fun cool film, relax people, if you want to see a Dracula Masterpiece, Watch Coppalas interpretation made in 1992. If you want a real classic see Christopher lee in The Blood of Dracula. If you to sit down and watch a Friday night movie with your family or by yourself, watch Dracula Untold and don't complain about historical inaccuracy or small holes in the story.
2016: Obama's America (2012)
The truth is again unveiled
As far as a documentary goes, I give it 7 out of 10 stars. As far as a propaganda machine for the Republican Party goes, I'd say that would be a stretch. The content of the documentary is based on Dinesh D'Souza's theory of Obama's motivation, vision, and world view. The documentary takes us on a journey across several continents in search of evidence for D'Souza's theory. Although D'Souza is clearly conservative and an active member of Republican ideals, he does not harp on that point or rely on promotion of the Republican party in any way. Instead, he seeks to reveal the true heart and soul of Barack Obama. D'Souza shows us thelife events and world history that has molded and influenced Obama's philosophy and aspiration from early childhood to the office of the presidency. The evidence is presented clearly as the characters, friends, relatives, and mentors are paraded in full light for us to see. Obama's own book, words, and political actions are used as evidence to support D'Souza's theory and further reveal the Man that many pinned their hopes and dreams on. D'Souza does something interesting with his theory, he makes predictions. Whether some have come true or will come true, I will not say, but it is certainly a documentary worth seeing. I do not believe this documentary makes false assertions or claims. It merely presents the evidence that D'Souza has researched and makes arguments to support his theory. I believe this documentary as a standalone piece should be rated about 8 stars for bravery and truth finding in a world riddled with lies and propaganda. The quality and overall presentation should also be about 8 stars, however, because this movie was so unfairly rated by close minded people who refuse to acknowledge at the very least, the quality of the documentary and its content, I must give it 10 stars so that it can hopefully be balanced by those who voted so far askew. If you love Obama... and will not listen to fair criticism and you have a closed mind on the subject, don't see this film, don't rate it, and above all please don't show up to vote.
