Bad Girls (1994)
Beautiful film that leaves you feeling nostalgic-not advised for emotionally low IQ males. Thanks
Beautifully underrated film. Maybe that's a good thing, keeps it a hidden gem. This film portrays rich sensitivity and human relations told through the story of woman as protagonists who have gone' bad'. You really feel for the main characters and want them to succeed. The men play as side lines to the women but the 2 male characters are portrayed as sensitive and caring even though they are masculine and rugged.
The actors and actresses are beautiful to look at, aesthetically pleasing to the eye especially the guy who plays Josh and drew Barrymore. The acting is excellent and believable. The characters make you cry and really connect with them. A true test of good quality acting. It made me cry in the end and left me feeling nostalgic. The cinematography is stunning too and the sound track matches the films emotional tone. It's amazing how great films get underrated and poorly rated, yet mind numbingly stupid violent films for the sake of violence and sex, get very highly rated on IMDb and elsewhere. Similar to the trash churned out in the music industry that gets all the air play, but the quality artists get pushed to the back. That's fine, it leaves them for the highly intelligent and highly evolved humans to enjoy like rare fruits.
Frozen (2010)
Stunning real acting and touching storyline-UNDERRATED!!
HAIL Adam Green the director, writer and actors and of course the production crew for a very powerful deep cleansing arctic breath of fresh air cutting through the trashy fog of current films.
One of the most beautiful touching well acted films I've watched. Shows the sensitive side of men. Beautifully acted and so natural and believable. One of the best acted films . The script has been written beautifully with a gorgeous rich human plot. I mean to be able to carry out excellent acting when there's no fast moving action throughout most of the film (instead it focuses on the 3 actors in one situation) and you MUST use your acting skills is a true testament to these 3 immensely talented actors. I applaud you. You feel these characters , there life, there fears, there deep soul. It made me cry so much and i actually touched the screen and said 'please don;t cry'. They made me laugh too. Now when a film makes you react like that..you know its truly powerful and the actors are very talented. The story has excellent twists and plays on real human fears and its also exciting and tense because you think..how will i get out of this situation? Gripping would describe it.
As for the rating. Ives given up on how the masses rate films. Its like the music industry , you tend to find shallow pieces of work and artist get rated the highest. Lots of PR, MARKETING and jumping the band wagon goes on. The real rare gems are films like this, under all that mainstream unfairly highly rated rubble.Ones y'll keep and treasure in your heart for a life time.
It's all believable too. And realistically done. No silly gaping plot holes.
Beautiful score.
If you have depth, deep sensitivity and complex intelligence you will be more likely to enjoy this.
Vertical Limit (2000)
Best thing about this film are the few glimpses of Chris O' Donnell's amazing behind-in gear!
This film has a slow dragging plot that seems to not go anywhere. It also has that cheesy American 'Indiana Jones' feel to the movie, but without the fun of Indiana Jones.
It has annoying characters in it like the 2 stupid Australians who i kept wishing would get buried under an avalanche! There's n point having all the near misses, because we know that the main characters are not going to die. There are some real touching moments in the film and i have to give it to Chris he is not just a stunning face, he can actually show real depth of emotion. Best thing about the movie is that Pakistan is portrayed in a positive light as it's people and country always seems to get demonized by western movies. The second best thing is the stunning Chris O Donnell and glimpses of his beautiful behind when he's rock climbing
Black Water (2007)
Very realistic and amazing believable acting
Black Water came out on DVD around the same time as Dimension Extreme's Rogue which I already reviewed.Black Water like Rogue also features a salt water crocodile that has attacked a boat, and is based on true events like rogue, but the difference here is Black Water is a bit more realistic in that the croc footage they used was real,as directors David Nerlick and Andrew Traucki insisted no cgi be used, and the integration of the croc into some of the attack scenes is a treat, Black Water in my opinion was also much more suspenseful, grim and intense than Rogue. The budget was also way,way lower.20x lower actually!
The plot:Grace (Dianna Glen), her partner Adam (Andy Rodoreda) and her younger sister Lee (Maeve Dermody) take a holiday to Northern Australia, where they decide to go on a river tour, but unluckily for them they have missed the tour which leads to tour guide Jim taking them on a tour of the river with his own small motor boat. They drift into some mangroves and feel some bumps and then before you know it they are all in the water and the boat is capsized thanks to a croc attack..and Jim is no longer around.Grace and Adam make it to one of the hundred trees in the mangrove while Lee is left stranded on the top of the capsized boat, before she eventually makes it to the tree to join Grace and Adam. And thats pretty much where most of the film takes place as the three mull over all the options to somehow get out of this hopeless situation. Now i know this may sound boring to some people or sound like open water only with a croc but trust me,its not.Its much more exciting than Open Water and it may not have as much action scenes as Rogue and for people looking for an animal attack film that is all attacks and body limps flying, you need look elsewhere.Because here less is more as the tension is ratcheted up gradualy as directors David Nerlick and Andrew Traucki give us just enough glimpses of the croc to keep us interested and scared while giving us action at the perfect moments. And I assure there is action here,as eventually the three of them decide they must take their chances getting to the capsized boat and soon learn maybe the situation is hopeless afterall. This croc is a truly terrifying character that knows exactly what is going on at all times and has no intention of letting anyone out of his territory alive.Probably the best scene is when the croc comes at nightfall for its dinner meal, really creepY and effective. Oh and despite the effective cgi in Rogue, the real croc here just blows away Rogues, not even close.
The acting:The acting is fantastic as its pretty much just 3 characters the entire movie, and they all come across extremely likable and put out very real and believable performances. You felt for them all and at times put yourself into their shoes, what would do in their situation?who has the better idea?would you wat for help or takes your chances? All 3 were pretty much unknown and ended up doing better than many more mainstream and well known actors.
Gore:Not that much on display,we do see an ear floating in the water.
Closing: Black Water is really a treat to watch, its got great tension, good characters and enough scares and action sequences to keep most people interested. The fact that all this was done with such an ultra low budget makes it even more impressive, proving that you don;t over the top Acton, gore or cgi to make an truly realistic, appealing and scary animal attack film.
Große Mädchen weinen nicht (2002)
so underrated it's a crime
I agree 100 % with the previous poster that this IS a masterpiece. So underrated it's a crime! Wow! I am seriously shocked how low rated this amazing film is! This is one of the best films i've seen. Just like the tacky shallow big money makers in the music eg Lady Gaga and Rhianna and all that vile rap all the shallow tacky flashy films get the highest ratings no matter what the content, script acting etc. Says a lot about humans and current society.
I'm not going to say much about the content, ill leave you to watch it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed. This film is about friendship and how deep it can run. It's also about broken families and the effects it can have on children and how they get taken advantage off by predators who sense there vulnerabilities. I love the friendship theme, the story plays out how deep friendships can run ad also how they start to disintegrate slowly when you're hurting, but take it out on the people closet to you.. I'm sure this will touch a chord with most of us. I'm a guy from Leeds, UK and this film is in German. But i totally felt it and it made me cry.The acting was that believable and genuine.
A beautiful lush soundtrack accompanies this film.
