Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire (2023)
Military with artillery, but the hero slashes everyone with a knife. Enough said.
Almost 90% of characters, including the antoganists, in Salaar praise the Hero for what a great destructor he is. The value of each character in the movie depends on how much of an extreme buildup they give for the Hero character.
"He did that",
"He will do that",
"Until he asks, the Sun won't rise",
"He is here, the universe is watching with fear"
"He is a dinosaur resurrected in human form"
and so on and so on and so on and so on and so on.
You are already tired. And, this is also already a sign of worst things to arrive and they do arrive with full force. Every scene the hero Prabhas is shown it comes with some epic music as if a war was just won. Every single thug with a weapon is beaten to pulp by the Hero. No need to mention, with bare hands. No matter even if the warring group holds in possession of modern war tanks and kalashnikov's and standing right opposite the Hero with an intent to kill, the hero kills each one of them with a machete.
In one particular scene, the Hero is on the verge of killing an important character, all the 50 odd army men around him falter simultaneously in loading their rifles to shoot him. Yep, not a single one. Everyone drop their bullets or guns slip from their hands. All 50 falter loading the damn rifles at the same time. The Hero is let to finish his killing job at ease. That is how a great fighter the Hero is. Or, how cheaply incapable the villains are.
Final thought: DON'T WATCH THIS PATHETIC THING.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
A GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. Don't be fooled by the rating.
I enjoyed Aquaman-1 a lot. And, what's more, now Aquaman-2 is much better than the first. Equal measures of story, action and humor. The first part was great, but i was not sure if a sequel would hold much substance because Aquaman-1 already covered lot of the aqua world in a grand manner. So, when i walked into the theater, I hadn't got much expectations. But i should accept that the movie WOW'ed me. It got a slower beginning, and picks up steam gradually leading up to a satisfying ending. The quest by the antagonist in the beginning was good, only to be eclipsed by another quest by the protagonist in the middle portion of the movie. The brotherhood dynamics between Arthur and Orm was neatly presented. The way it turned up in the climax was admirable. Talking about climax, glad it was not too far-stretched as in Aquaman-1 though. CGI was stunning. It is as good as the first part, if not better. I don't know what is there to write anything negative about this movie. This is a movie with a good story, some epic actions and one or two twists here & there. A neat entertainer to be enjoyed with family, particularly children. Easily 8 stars all around.
If you want to know my personal like/dislike references, i loved Aquaman-1, Justice League (except the climaxes in both), Infinity War, Thor Ragnarok, Black Panther, Spider Man No Way Home, Batman 2022 etc.
Disliked Antman Quantumania, Thor Love & Thunder, Wakanda Forever, Far From Home, Batman V Superman etc.
The Gray Man (2022)
It's a bang!
One of the best political thrillers. A cat and mouse game between Gosling and Evans. Action sequences were filmed ultimate. Especially the tram and car chase sequence. The emotional connect with the little girl works surprisingly. Don't know why it is rated less than 7. It is as good as a Damon's Bourne movie. You will have a blast watching. The only gripe would be missing the action of this magnitude in big screens but Netflix did a good job making it.
Vikram (2022)
An Okay'ish movie
Nothing outstanding about Vikram. Story does not establish emotional connection with the characters. A shallow storyline. Fahad Faazil shines in his role. Kamal and Vijay Sethupathi were okay. One time watchable at best.
Midway (2019)
Patrick Wilson & Woody Harrelson shine in their small parts
Acting by most of the lead characters in this movie was bad. One could easily tell they overact and it was not natural. The story also looked a bit confusing to me with too many character names thrown around, especially the fleet names, Japanese names etc and I was having a hard time following it. Saving grace was the action sequences in the second half. You will enjoy that and make the viewers invest in the outcome. Patrick Wilson and Woody Harrelson - give their best in their roles, their acting pedigree shines. Despite the flaws i will give it a 7 for the action and Pat/Woody.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Most riveting to watch in Fantastic Beasts series
Fantastic Beasts Where to Find Them was a great one. FB2 Crimes of Grindelwald was so-so. However, Yates has redeemed the franchise in the 3rd - Secrets of Dumbledore. I am a fan of Harry Potter series, I believe FB3 may not match the intensity of the last couple movies of the HP. But it still goes on to hold its own.
The movie has a few issues to solve from the previous edition - The central one being the Albus Dumbledore's unknown familial relationship with Credence. And, next the unbreakable vow between Dumbledore & Grindlewald, without which both won't engage in a duel. Both the issues have satisfying endings that run along with the main plot of Grindlewald's attempts to take over the leadership of magical world. Another new fantastic beast is revealed in this movie that also forms the crux of the story.
There are a couple of plot holes but nothing big to endanger the movie's final outcome. The main characters of the FB3 constantly have something to solve to move against Grindlewald that kept the story interesting. This will definitely be a great family viewing. It has got some great visuals as well, so watching it in the big screen does justice to the making. I watched it in a normal screen, i wish i watched it in the IMAX as it was running nearby. I would ideally rate this movie 7.5 stars.
3 Idiots (2009)
Indian fans push not so great movies into IMDB top 100
Not saying this is a too bad movie. But it should not find its place in here. Indian fans en masse rating the indian movies with a perfect 10, pushes unworthy Indian movies into top 100. And knocks really great international movies down below. Laughable that this goof up movie stays much above the well made classic Amadeus.
