Reviews
Neerja (2016)
Great story but bad direction
I'm compelled to write this review for the movie Neerja. This is a mockery. It fails in every aspect of narration. I do realize that Indians have this 'adjustment' mentality but this piece has the ability to push even an Indian beyond his adjustment tolerance.
Worst possible direction for such an epic story and casting is poorest to honest. The extras are horrible in the movie. They are neither interested in active story nor there was any effort made to groom them for the scene.
Screenplay is the real buzz kill. It switches to personal story from a high point hijack scene at an abrupt point, it kills all the moment gained so far. And fails to push the movie back to similar pace.
I hardly remember listening to any soundtrack or music score. Such an emotional roller coaster movie subject with thrilling scenes and music doesn't make slightest attempt to harness those situations. An utter failure from music point of view.
Shabana Azmi tries to steer the entire movie with her performance alone. And the rest of the crew fails to do justice. She must credited for being the only scorer here for the movie.
And I'm very particular about cinematography and this had the worst cinematography one can imagine. Eye of the movie never attempts to make me feel the situation they are in. It was supposed to teleport me inside the plane but the plane was where it was. Never connected with the story.
There are specific scenes which could've been emphasized even more because they form the load bearing actions of the movie.
Into the Wild (2007)
Might be a fool's story but a very well told one
To begin with, it is very difficult to make movies by adapting from books because there will always be a limitation to environment details and also outcome of a decision. Books usually do not conclude any rationals to the actions taken by protagonist. In cinema, director has to decide a direction of motive during post processing.
I read a lot of reviews which were negative because they felt character was stupid to have done that. But director is not naive enough to have ignored that fact. Director does a decent effort in presenting the story. That must be appreciated.
Regarding how stupid the character was or how much of a life he wasted can be spoken about in a different context. But I felt, as a movie, this was very good. It makes you react, you react to it, maybe in a good way or bad. But this one leaves a lot of questions in mind regarding solitude and relations. Great performance by the actors and wonderful music. And visuals are really good.
The Lobster (2015)
The Lobster's Ecdysis: Great thought, Stupid narrative!
I want to keep this review simple, unlike this movie, which fails terribly in setting the context.
Movie opens with a scene, in which in which a lady gets out of the car and shoots an animal, an ass. This doesn't make any sense in first viewing (What's happening here is that she might be killing a person who has been transformed into an animal) Now, think what a bad-ass opening this film has. Love Revenge!
There are two worlds in this cinema, 1. World of Couples 2. World of Loners
And the Hotel is the society, which lays out the rules and ensures the people follow it.But the problem with this film is that there is no empathy in any form.Be it in acting, dialog, music or color.
Nosebleed girl & nosebleed guy pair up Short sight guy & short sight girl pair up This is like a cinematic version of the tech issue, USB type-c compatibility.
Why not make a music video instead of a feature length film? Or write a poem and publish the same? Or just paint?
"And within a few weeks we could almost talk anything without even opening our mouths"
Yes, they said it.
The BFG (2016)
Beautiful Cinema
Yet another, another, brilliant movie by Steven Spielberg. An honest storytelling of a fantasy world which is filled with friendly and scary giants, stunning landscapes and naive motives. Movie has clean humor which entertains the child in you. If you can see the movie through the eyes of Sophie. Great performance by Ruby Barnhill as Sophie. BFG - Big Friendly Giant voiced by Mark Rylance steals the show. One gets to see the changing progressions with expressions along with the story. What I observed in the movie was that there was very less struggle/conflict between antagonists and protagonists. This doesn't satisfy the elder audience because every conflict seems to get resolved very quickly. Kids will really like this movie, it has all the elements to keep a child engrossed in viewing.
