I did not expect this. I had never seen an animated episode like this. I have a love/hate relationship with Bob's Burgers. I think Gene is the most annoying character in the history of animation, and Linda is second, so I'm not a fan of episodes that are centered on them. I like Tina and Bob, and I like the episodes where Louise shows her soft side. The writers and animators hit it out of the park with this one. The look on Rudy's face and the focus on it throughout the episode was well done and really conveyed his feeling of being lost in his new reality with his parents.
Humor was not needed here, but they did try to force it with Gene, which is why I took away a star. The Simpsons tried for an episode like this with "Lisa's Belly," but that came off preachy. This episode was sweet and heartfelt and showed how confusing and sad moments in life can be for young children.

Shows centered on Bob and/or Tina are good.
Gene Belcher is the most annoying cartoon character of all time. He's loud, annoying, still has a imaginary friend, his mother infantilizes him, and he has the emotional maturity of a 4-year-old. No 11 year old should be in love with his mother. The Linda-Gene relationship is very creepy. Both Gene and Linda are pretty dim too. It's rare to have a cartoon couple or any couple on a sit-com where the wife is more annoying and less intelligent than the husband, but this show does it.
Louise hates anyone and anything who thinks differently than she does, and is always scheming. Usually her schemes don't go all the way as she has a change of heart, though she was going to cut Gene's ear off once and only stopped when Bob walked in on them. Gene, by the way, had no problem with his ear getting cut off.
So if you like humor, watch the shows were Bob or Tina is the focus. If you like dim-witted annoying characters, watch shows where Gene and/or Linda are the main story line, and Louise - it's a crap shoot.
