Station Eleven (2021)
A stellar story
There sure are a lot of crabby reviewers on this site who express their ignorance either with generalized non-statements like it was boring, or by right wing jargon like using 'woke' as a criticism.
I have only seen the first three episodes but like all good drama it is creating a space for a full and complete experience. For those who like instant gratification and superficial silliness Station Eleven is not for you. I am a fan of post apocalyptic stories whether in novels or films and I loved this book. Far too many novels of this genre started and ended with the last few human survivors trying to kill each other off where Station Eleven is about rebuilding our society and knowing what is important in that rebuilding.
The acting is superb especially the two actors who portray Kirsten. The scenes with the travelling troop of actors and musician were wonderful because they show the resilience of humans when humour and art are allowed to flourish even in dire times. And these are dire times especially in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic but this show is about more than that.
The criticism about the so-called woke sensibility is typical now of so much American culture but I thought the diversity of the characters reflected a real world, not some Trumpian fantasy land.
So don't listen to the naysayers on this site , watch Station Eleven with an open mind and an open heart and you will be delighted.
