Samouraïs (2002)
Could be better, but fun in a cheesy way
Look, most of the review here say the movie is terrible...it isn't that bad. For what it is...a low budget direct to video release it is actually much better than a lot of releases that were low budget direct to video releases. The Manga like storyline is ok, the acting is tolerable, there is some good action and funny lines...I watched the english dubbed version which you have to look past. This flick isn't hald bad for what it is, if you can look past the flaws there is a decent story and some fun action scenes. It is not a film to be taken seriously, in some ways I think the director was making fun of the big budget star studded films, many of which were worse than this one. If you like Manga type action films, this one is probably worth your time...if not just move along.
Resident Evil (2022)
They made an effort....but comes up short
Let me start by saying I did enjoy watching this show, it just didn't stay true to the franchise. The first 6 episodes were good, then in episode 7 it just took a left turn when they should have went right. There were some good references to the priginal game that if you are a fan and know the game you would definitely pick up on. Some of the writing was clever and the story was mostly coherent and not too cheesy until that last 1/4 of the season. At that point it seemed like they lost track of whatever vision they had. If you are expecting it to be like the original video game or movie franchises this is probably not for you, as Netflix definitely had their own vision and their own spin on the franchise. Like I said I enjoyed watching Season 1, there was a lot of good things to build on, but in the end, like so many shows these days, it ended with no closure and sounds like it probably will not get a second season. If you are a fan of Resdent Evil you will probably be disappointed, I know I was, but I still enjoyed watching this show.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Wasn't what I expected, but it's not a bad show
I have watched every episode of every Star Trek series ever made. I had big expectations leading up to the show. After I watch the first two episodes I thought it was pretty good, but I didn't connect it to the Star Trek brand that I am accustomed to. While they call this Star Trek it is more like an action sci-fi show because of All the discrepancies between this series in the previous Star Trek series. The first thing that stood out to me was this was 10 years before Kirk the original Star Trek get the technology is more advanced that doesn't make sense. The next thing that stood out to me was the creature that they used to power the sport drive and they were basically torturing the creature in till it was almost dead to Powers that drive which seems to go against the prime directive. I did think it was amusing that they said the f word a Star Trek show. So I'll leave it this I think most sci-fi fans like myself would enjoy the show it's not a Star Trek show. Yes they use these weird looking Klingons and Vulcans and the Federation blah blah blah but I wouldn't really say it's a Star Trek show it's an action sci-fi show. I will continue to watch it because I like science fiction but it's kind of a blemish on the Star Trek name
