Deadly Women (2008)
When it's good it's okay
But when it's bad it's *cringe*. The scripts can be badly over dramatic, but that can be forgiven in the interest of condensing a complicated story into a 22 minute segment. The worst parts are the acting, especially if it involves an American Southern or, God forbid, a foreign accent. One could have hoped that their talent budget was more than a rent payment.
The Good Doctor (2017)
It was a dare
Well, sort of. I challenged myself to try to watch it just to see what all the hype was about. Result: never doing that again!
It is a disaster in casting and characterization, worse, laughably badly written from start to finish. Both in the medical procedures and in the human dynamic it runs like it could have been written by an emo 15 year old girl. Predictable, syrupy, campy, painfully brutal preaching about acceptance, tolerance, and inclusion.
Ad Astra (2019)
a Disappointing plot tease
The only redeeming factor in this movie is that Tommy Lee Jones is cast in it. That's it. The script is weak, the "action" is boring and contrived, the plot is thin, the characters are at the same time flat and utterly uninteresting. For the first half of the film there were dozens of moments in the story that can have you anticipating Something Interesting Happening, but by the final 45 minutes I gave up. There could have been a wonderfully convoluted, intriguing, intricate story to interweave together, but what you get is an eight year old's space hero daydream.
