Persuasion (2022)
Really enjoyable but not for Austen purists
This is an enjoyable entertaining adaptation of one of my favourite Austen Novels .
It's got a kind of Bridgerton meets fleabag vibe and I personally think it works .
It's fun, quirky and quite fast paced.
The actors are great especially the fabulous Richard E Grant though he truly is a delight in every role he's ever played . Henry Golding is stunning. Dakota Johnson plays Anne beautifully and Cosmo Jarvis is s the right amount of broody.
Loved Mia McKenna Bruce as pouty sulky hypochondriac Mary .
Scenery is also stunning.
If you're an Austen purist or someone who can't watch Bridgerton because "that's not how it would have been" *faceslaps then I'd give this one a miss.
The Witchfinder (2022)
Not that great tbh
Watched the first episode thought it rubbish, TimKey just not funny and there's too much reliance on the word Gooch for humour. I liked him in AlphaPapa.
Anyway gave it another go it improved slightly I'm on episode 4 it's still average.
I do love Daisy May Cooper she is the best thing in this show.
Jessica Hynes is unrecognisable I had to keep looking to see if it was really her.
Usually I find Baby Cow productions hilarious but this is a miss.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
There is an afterlife
I loved Ghostbusters I was obsessed with Ghostbusters when I was a kid, Ghostbusters 2 I didn't like never have never will...the female reboot I loved it it made me laugh it was good fun.
This one gave me goosebumps when I first saw the trailer at the cinema...it did not disappoint.
From the opening scene to the end I was hooked ,it's entertaining stays true to the original format. It extends into Egon's future family and builds on what their life becomes . Phoebe and Trevor are good characters and I truly believed they were Egon's grandkids.what's not to love, granted I guessed the plot but so what, there's lots of nostalgia it's a fun film don't take it so seriously.
It made me cry a to the end too ..proper sobs but I'm a very sentimenal person. Two Easter eggs in the end credits too.
1941 (1979)
Fantastic
One of my most favourite Spielberg films... 1941 is a Jones family favourite the first time I watched this I nearly wet myself,I have so many favourite bits and lines,My brother and I can quote the whole film. the quality of the cast is unbelievable ,Robert stacks deadpan portrayal of the major general is excellent, the scene in the cinema where he's watching Dumbo just kills me. John Belushi's wild Bill Kelso,Dan Ackroyd as the sergeant,Treat Williams being an a*hole, Christopher Lee playing the German Captain.Ned Beatty as the hapless dad protecting his homestead and family, all offer no end of entertainment.i have never understood why this film was slated . If you like The BluesBrothers,Spies like us and Stripes (Sgt. Hulka) and other films of that ilk you will love this much maligned Classic(in my opinion) It's a perfect film for a quiet rainy Saturday afternoon which is funnily enough how I'm watching it right now....buy this film and enjoy it for what it is lighthearted entertainment watch out for the Ferris wheel scene you won't be disappointed
